I know there is a FAQ. A little vague on the first clean.

Just how far do I take the rifle down to clean it?? Before my first trip to the range? Completley strip it?
Or just the 3 majors. Stock / Trigger assy / Barrel assy.

Cleaning the bolt?? Manual says no cleaning needed. If I do clean the bolt, soak it in cleaner and boil it??

What about the gas system? Does it need cleaning before first use? Or leave it be?

Want to clean it NOW!! and head up to BGC tomorrow a.m :)

umm...thanks:evil:

i clean everything.... soak and clean the trigger group, clean entire gas assembly inside and out, it needs to be 100% free of grease, oil, cosmoline.
the bolt is tricky for some folks to disassemble but i don't see any reason not to. the bolt should be completly free of cosmoline inside and out. I grease my bolt externally but i apply no oil or grease inside the bolt, firing pin and it's channel should be dry..... i spray the pin with g96, wipe dry and reassembly bolt.Barrel and chamber should be scrubbed good as well to remove any traces of cosmo.

I also stripped mine down when I first got it and cleaned it from head to toe. Took apart the gas assembly and cleaned that as well. Its probably best to start from scratch so you know if something jams up at the range its not the cosmoline causing problems.

I'm tearing mine down fairly far....perhaps too far :( Can any authority tell me how to reindex the rear sight after a complete disassmbly? The windage is no problem, but how do I set up the elevation? Where should the peep sight initially be in regards to any certain mark on the adjuster wheel? Kinda need a fast response on this (I'm such an ass)

I boiled all my parts first for 20 min. Trigger assembly, bolt...everything that would fit into a 12" steel pot. then I resoaked same parts again in varsol for a 1/2 hour then scrubbed everything with a tooth brush.
Then reassembled with a light shot of G96.

I'd like to know that one doo, having the sight set at 800m at its lowest setting doesn't look smart...

I think I answered my own question. Glad I took pics before disassembling.
Note the sight height vs the indicator wheel.
The screw on the elevation wheel backed off allows the wheel to spin without the sight moving. It also provides the tension for the windage. The tighter the screw, the harder to adjust the windage.

Back out the left(elevation side) to allow you to set zero.

Back out the right(windage) lock to make sight adjustments. Tighten (if desired) when zeroed.
