Edmonton Gun stores?

I have always had good service from Gord at Milarm. What I have noticed is that he won't just sell you the most expensive custom blaster just because he can. He will talk about how most guns are more accurate than most shooters...which is true. Saves you some money. Of course if your skills do require custom...or you just like them he can help you with that too.

The thing with Milarm is that they are not your typical retail store. They are fairly genuine people... some may say abrasive. But these are the types you run into in the firearms community. If you prefer phony salesperson act then you will not like Milarm. They try and get you what you are looking for without selling you what you don't need. I guess it is how you look at it. Some people have an idea of what they want and want the gunstore salesman to agree and praise them on their briliant choice and blow all kinds of smoke up their butt to get their money. When someone doesn't agree or suggests somthing different they get upset. I prefer the honest.

Im all for getting opinions on stuff from gunstores, i talk to guys about stuff all the time. Of course i've only been in the shooting community for 2+ years. Im the first generation in my family to be a shooter so i greatly appreciate when i get help like mentioned.

But Theres a difference when the guy tries to recomend something based on appearences (in this case, my friends rank) or tries to sell him something based on experiance. If the sales guy had actually asked, and tried to see what he "needed" based on his experiance im sure it would have worked out much better.

One of those "little oversights makes a big deal" things.

I will usually give a place a second try, but my friend isn't quite so forgiving of a place :(

Wild West tho, it took 2 weeks of me calling them every day for them to JUST REGISTER the pistol  (it kept getting "put on the backburner )

I had the gun payed off and showed my liscence in September, and it was late december when i finally got to take it home. My friend got his Sig from P&D in less than half the time!

Hence why I said Gord can be a smart ass at times. I find it very difficult to believe that if you buddy was in uniform that they would show so much disrespect. Some people just don't get Gord's humor. The thing with Milarm is that once they get to know you they treat you like gold. Most stores will only do that if you spend money. You can go to milarm and hang out for hours... P&D actually discourage that practice. They do treat coustomers well but don't expect to get good treatment if you stay too long and don't spend cash. I have had two friends of mine that have worked at P&D. They were given a hard time for chatting with customers and were told "if they are not spending money to move on to someone who will." Don't get me wrong, P&D staffers will be polite (Phil will be of great help), but what I am saying is that the gunstore meeting phenomenon is limited. No one likes tire kikers but Milarm and Lock and Load are about all thats left for those people that want to meet and talk guns and politics etc.

Personally, I like P&D the best. Their staff is the friendliest, and they'll go out of their way to help you. Milarm has knowledgeable staff and lots of selection and so does Phoenix. Wild West has a great selection of newer handguns, rifles and some shotguns. It's been awhile since I've been in to Wild West.
All in all, between those 4 stores you should be able to find almost anything you're looking for.

It definatly could have been. My friend is quite literal about things, so he could have taken it the wrong way :)

My old boss was like that, if you didn't know him he seemd like a giant arse, but once you got to know him he was a good guy.

I have done quite a bit of "window shopping" at P&D they dont seem to mind me asking stupid questions and chatting, so i guess its different for everyone :p

The first time I walked into Lock & Load it was kind of like a movie when a suit walks into the biker bar and everything goes silent and every head turns... I wondered if I was supposed to be there.

But it turned out they had the hard to find parts I needed and were very professional, friendly and helpful.

Well when I make my 100 billion dollars I will open a store and offer free guns and gunsmithing services. But only to card carrying liberals who sign a petition to abolish the gun registry and the crazy mag and prohib laws.:p

Haha, I know that feeling! Definitely some regulars in there, he just needs Guiness on tap now..... :p

But as you said, and I found this also, they are all very friendly and helpful.

I had that feeling also my first time there & baptised those guys the ''Old Boys club'' but they're all good to go.

If there was Guiness on tap, I'd never go to work :p

Where else in Edmonton can you find 5 91/30 snipers in a week?

Glad I got there while there were some left...

Anyone who melts the barrel of his MG42 in a single burst has got to be a good guy :50cal:

You have to see the pics of the barrel to believe it......

You can see the bullets travelling down the bore as cool spots.....
