Edmonton Gun stores?

Lock And Load is a great place untill the resident SNIPER starts talking..lol The only guy I know who did a Reserve Sniper course and cross trained on Leopards to.lol

Once a month at WSS, we had a reserve sniper type that showed up to tell us some LR stories also...always a good laugh! :D

Milarm

Ever since Al sold part ownership to the crew, I found Milarm's service and selling style lacking ie. 'you better buy the AR on the rack cuz they will be banning them soon and they can't import anymore.'

They tend to treat everybody like uneducated consumers so they make stuff up thinking they can get away with it.

One time, I wanted to buy a consignment gun which had a price tag and also advertised in their printed ad but when I went to complete the transaction, they wanted another $50!! :jerkit:

Never been back since. Many of the police members I know rather order from out of town than deal with Milarm/Polarm ie. ordering from Calgary.

Save yourself the attitude.

Spot on

WOW! I didn't know so many people were so sensitive to a little slagging. I pesonally like the fact that I can go into Milarm and throw a few insults around. Its also nice to be able to rummage for treasures. I seem to find something new and obscure every time I look around. Lots of junk but keep looking and you will be suprised. I've found things in there that you are hard pressed to find anywhere. "Hey Mike, you wouldn't know where a guy can get such a thing", "Well, I think I saw one in a drawer in the back, let me check". Then do a little haggling and you come out fairly happy. Don't expect to get things for free but I have had very few experiences of it being over inflated. There are some items that are but that is when the buyer has to make a choice. Also, as to them giving a line of BS to sell an item... I find it hard to beleive. If you are not satisfied with your purchase they will actually take it back. So why would they lie and then have to buy the firearm back? How many gunshops will do that? I KNOW P&D will not... I have first hand knowledge of that. Again it all comes down to what you are looking for. Each shop has its appeal. But hey, for those who choose to boycot Milarm, great. More cheap ammo and cool and obscure things for me.

I got this from P&D and a few other sources a few years back. I think it was a fear about export permits or end user certificates... or something like that. Anyone else remember what the issue was?

I must say P&D got it right!

What is the impression you are giving to ALL OTHER customers when you have a few old boys keep preoccupying the staff?

Instead giving everyone fast and fair service, they are spending too much time over mindless conversation with a SELECTED FEW. Do you butt in when two people are having conversations among themselves?

That's why some old shops are getting all the badrap because not EVERYONE is the favorite buddy buddy customer of the staff.

I value those who give fast, straight forwards and courteous no BS service instead of those who give too much of their own unsolicited opinions. I like personalized service - but thre is a line that needs to be drawn.

Hence why I said Gord can be a smart ass at times. I find it very difficult to believe that if you buddy was in uniform that they would show so much disrespect. Some people just don't get Gord's humor. The thing with Milarm is that once they get to know you they treat you like gold. Most stores will only do that if you spend money. You can go to milarm and hang out for hours... P&D actually discourage that practice. They do treat coustomers well but don't expect to get good treatment if you stay too long and don't spend cash. I have had two friends of mine that have worked at P&D. They were given a hard time for chatting with customers and were told "if they are not spending money to move on to someone who will." Don't get me wrong, P&D staffers will be polite (Phil will be of great help), but what I am saying is that the gunstore meeting phenomenon is limited. No one likes tire kikers but Milarm and Lock and Load are about all thats left for those people that want to meet and talk guns and politics etc.

I somewhat agree. Like I said, it all depends on what you are looking for. I like it when a shop's staff remember me for all the time and money I have dropped there. Some shops treat everyone the same. For those who do not frequent or spend little cash in the shops this is all good, but I like to be remembered. I probably drop >$15000 a year in the local shops (minus P&D, but that is my issue, I've personally boycotted the shop for significant ethical reasons); I feel that should buy some recognition.

Umm, that's a staff issue rather than an "old boy" issue.

In my experience, the "old boys" get out of the way for "real customers", unless of course I'm blowing scads of money like usual.

I went to Milarm a few months ago, and asked to see a 12.6 smith, with the intention of having a buddy with 12.6 buy it, and rebarrel it.

The old guy behind the counter (not Al) told me I couldn't touch it, cause I wasn't 12.6. Bull$#@%.

I will still shop there, but only if no one else has what I need.

He like to start by saying 1 inch at 1000 and then giggle.......I miss the fat biker guy who wore 5 knifes and his Leather vest he was soooo cool..lol

The guy I'm talking about wasn't a biker type rather ISA but shot an STD Springfield M1A w/ irons @ the Genesee 700m gong/tgt, with 5 rounds , not 1 MOA but 1'' group @ 700m...Pretty good shot if you ask me!!

No, but Gord is... Check the website...

Btw, Airborne_69, remember when we were talking about the other ex-Milarm employee being Recondo? I think this is who the guy was thinking of, not the one you said.

JJ: this guy I'm talking about, is a totally other story :)
