What are your thoughts about Alliant Herco?

Pretty much the title. I load pistol stuff and the supply of powder is not good. Easier to find primers than powder if you can believe it. Alliant says Herco is a shotgun powder.

Herco is in stock. Seems not that popular if internet search results are the standard for popularity.

I'd like to see if what people have used it for; if it's any good for all sorts of 9/38/357/45.
 
It's on the slow side of medium for pistol powders. I sought some out to try it in .40 S&W, it should work well enough for 9mm or .357 medium magnum.

It's an old, established powder, from the era of Red Dot and Unique, so it's not going to attract anybody who is after the latest and greatest in technology. The only real drawback to it is the shape: the large flakes probably don't run through the powder measures as well as a ball powder.

Thanks for the feedback. I like that it's got a bit more volume to fill the big case calibres and its availability. If the only real drawback is that it's flakes that's no issue as I weigh every charge.
