After reading a thread on stolen tree stands I would like to ask why do some hunters or should I call them bird watchers leave their portable store bought tree stands up year after year. This is on public and private land, some of the locked chains from the tree stand have grown into the tree killing the tree. One stand on public land for over 5 years is about to fall soon as the strap is in shredds from the tree growing bigger and the stand is cable locked to the tree? Most are unsafe to use and would have to be cut from the tree because of rusted locks, many have the tree steps grown into the tree also. There is a store bought ladder stand on public land that is unlocked against a tree for 3 full years. One of the stands was across the line and the farmer put a note on it to move it off his property. We asked the other hunter in our bush and he forgot about it? I know of over 20 portable stands left behind from previous hunters or trespassers. Maybe some are stolen or maybe some nature lover forgot where they put it but I hope the forgotten lost stands were not reported as stolen, ya think?
