Webley Mark IV 38 experts.

I'm thinking of buying a British Webley Mark IV 38 S&W revolver. The serial # is B44375. I was wondering if anyone could tell me the year of manufacture? I think the B represents Birmingham.

That serial puts it in the range of 1964-1968 (B28600- B48599). In 1946 Webley reset their MK IV serial numbers starting with the A-prefix, S/N:A1. After they reached about A100,000 and change they switched to the B prefix in 1957 starting over at B1. At this point the "prefix" was also moved above and to the right of the serial number on the actual gun, despite the change, all invoices and leger records show it was still written with the B in front.

Looks like I am buying one of these today. Seller is a friend, he offered it to me for $200 but I think it is worth closer to $500. He has owned his gun since the 60's. Looking forward to seeing it.

2-400 depending on condition. .38 S & W is not all that popular, and is hard to get; however easy to reload but requires a slightly larger bullet than .357 to shoot well. Dies are hard to get, but I had a shell holder that worked, and used 9mm dies; they work just fine.

I saw his gun a few hours ago. It is registered prob so this is a problem. Mis-classified as it has a 5 inch bbl. At a minimum it would take a month to get this classification changed, and that is likely generous. So we will see what happens with this situation. Buddy is busy doing farming right now so I doubt he will pizz around with this. I spent a couple hours on the topic today to see what needed to be done. Not easy during these crazy times.
