A 222 Remington

I wish I could shoot more ravens. Smart suckers.

On another bird note. Today I watched a great blue heron hunting gophers in the same pasture that I was shooting badgers in. It was a neat experience.

They are a smart predator. They have been accused of killing fawns, beef calves, ducklings etc. They are essentially like a coyote with wings.

Ravens like to pick out newborn caves eyes. Nasty bird!

Had problems with a bunch a few years ago, they where landing on our power pole and tripping the breaker. The bird got fried but Dad to call Saskpower to get it fixed.

I did raven watch for a sheep rancher during lambing season when I was a teen. I quickly learned how smart & wary ravens & crows are.
Never got a clean shot on the ravens with my shotgun, but that was fine with me as just my presence in the area was plenty to keep the birds
well away past 400 yds. No lamb loss that season, but I did get a decent bag of squirrels, rabbits & starlings though.

Was about two years ago the UK enforced some kind of ludicrous rule that livestock farmers were prevented from shooting crows & magpies during lambing season. That years lambs a ridiculous number were blinded by these birds pecking out the eyes of the newborn.
Quite sickening.
I do believe they changed this foolishness since.

Probably. They are terrible birds.

In Alberta if wildlife is harassing/killing stock on private land you can kill it. No hunting license needed. Cougars, black bears, wolves,…Grizzly’s I think there is a government compensation program for what they kill if you can prove it was a grizzly.

In Ontario;

Is that from the actual regulations that they misspell common?

BC has a season and limits on Ravens. I am skeptical that they peck the eyes out of calves, fawns, etc. I see them hunting grasshoppers and mice but that is it. But, they are smart so this may be a learned behavior.
