Hey all,

I just spoke with the Manitoba CFO and had them try and put through a transfer for me of a Norinco .22 pistol I bought from Marstar. It's the one they had on sale for $200. Apparently the serial number for these is really short and causes the system to send it automatically to the registry in Ottawa. It adds time to the approval process. Just an FYI, and whether it's true or not, I don't know, but figured I'd pass it along.

Cheers,
D

Oh great.:( Now I'll be waiting even longer for mine. Bought on June 6, haven't heard peep one since then. Of course I'm in Ontario where transfers move at glacier speed at the best of times.

They come into the country with the same serial number ,and than a cert # is issued to the gun when it is entered into the system, so unless something don't match, should not ,matter how short the serial number is .
I has one with a 2 number serial number, mind you that gun was 140 yrs old.
I did have a pair of 12-6 guns take a month to do as one serial number matched a different model, manuf. of gun,
But there was a problem with a green slip gun never updated.

So what is the problem with the Norinco Olympia then? Why is the Manitoba CFO saying that its serial number is too short? Looks like BS.
I ordered the Olympia on June 4 and absolutely nothing so far. Obviously, I'm in Ontario. It's annoying.

sounds strange to me as well, but as I said, if the cert serial # is the same as the gun, no reason to hold it up.
Ask them what the serial number is, if they will give it to you.

Waiting since July 5 for the transfer. BC this is, everything else went through in 3 weeks. This sucks.

Tried 50 times today to get through to the BC CFO, but that's just hopeless.

No, it is not 1-4-2, it is 1-1, then 9530.

I used both those numbers , alternating each time they hung up on me. Not saying it's a fix . I got through after 40+ calls

The CFO's are so backed up don't expect anything to get cleared for months.
They will tell you stories, but it's just a backlog of hundreds of thousands of panic buying transfers.

Not sure that (short ser number) would be an issue. The guns are imported and registered with their serial number. They are transferred to dealers using that same serial without issue. If the make/model etc line up with the serial I cannot see why it being short or long would cause any flags as long as the paper trail matched.

I have one on order but I am in Ontario and it was ordered Aug 6 so my experience will not be actually known until at least December 2022 or beyond

Marstar has confirmed that problem is real.

Bump. Anyone from Manitoba get their transfer through for this Norinco?

I got to shoot this norinco pistol yesterday, the guy that owns it said this was its first trip to the range. It has a sweet trigger, first shot took me by surprise a bit and now we have regrets on not buying one lol. No idea when he ordered or how long it took to get it. Will edit this posting if i see him again

My transfer came through on January 12 which was pretty much right on time with the Ontario transfer prediction worksheet on another thread. Got the gun in the mail within a week. Really happy with this one. Solid and shoots nice and straight.
