Freaking rednecked old timers

I am 35 years old born and raised in Canada, my parents are from Guyana.

I am probably the only Guyanese person who shoots trap, I have never experience any hostility. Greeks, Italians, Canadians, Eastern Euro, Asian, Brown are all friendly to me.

Few snobby individuals but that's to be expected.

The old guys like to squad up with their buddies which I understand. I will shoot with anyone.

Member of TIRPC/TITSC and Guelph Rod & Gun Club. Been to Hamilton Gun Club a few times. Last weekend the president of Oshawa Clay and Target Club invited me to shoot at his club.

Don’t think I’d be considered as old yet, but definitely a redneck. Trust me OP, we’re not all bad.

I didnt see you post, that you contacted those who left and tried to keep then to stay. Isn't that how you stand up and fight? Keep doing dispite the backlash?

Well coming from the hills of west virginia I know I am and this dude has no idea what a red neck is and I agree with you 100%

Rednecks do not adopt politically correct speech and are proud to be brutally honest about their feelings . Rednecks like to fight to solve their problems, preferring to beat someone at a street dance than to talk about the problem and solve it diplomatically. Rednecks come to the dinner table barefooted not because they have no shoes, but to specifically sneer at rules. Redneck women smoke cigarettes, chew gum, and wear curlers and put on makeup in public. The redneck rebels against education and against standard English, refusing to speak as others would have him or her speak. Rednecks hunt proudly, take baths only occasionally, and work on old cars in their front yard. Rednecks are characterized by excess; they eat too much, drink too much, smoke too much, play too hard, and live too hard. The outsider’s perception of all these things differentiates the redneck from the always correct, high class educated entitled fools that cry when they get a stink eye.

I say wipe your tears and pull up your panties and get to know the old boys

Suck it up and shoot and get to know those around you. Man it was the same for any new guy as far back as the mid 60's when I started shooting
Had to earn their respect and did and he is a fool to think it will stop when one circle dies off

Almost all of the new interested shooters at my club to come out and try are of Asian/India decent. There’s a new handful every week. None return. Their reception is passively hostile, and they quickly figure out what’s what. It’s easy to spot, the disgruntled tone of the old guys voice and their glaring looks are blatantly obvious. They wait to pounce on any little safety infraction and then act with unnecessary aggression. It’s beyond embarrassing.
It’s not easily addressed without making enemies (which I don’t care about) and it’s darn near impossible to gain ground dealing with a pigheaded majority.
So all you rednecked old timers out there pull your head out of your ***es or hurry up and die so we can try to get memberships up and make shooting enjoyable again. Accept the fact that all of Canada has changed, not just the big cities, and like it or not the future of shotgun sports depends on including everyone.

The exclusive and unwelcoming nature of gun clubs in this country, has been shaped by political reality on the ground for decades now. It's an attitude that is better described as 'careful....survivalist....conservative, even' but I wouldn't mistake it for racist or bigoted. Imo, but those people are everywhere, and come equally in all shapes, sizes and colours. Sure there's a good conversation to be had about racial hierarchy perceptions (ie. how different races perceive their social status relative to others), but I just don't think it applies here. For example: Every time a Somali woman looks down her nose at me like I'm some sort of underclass peasant scum; I can't help but think to myself, "Lady, I've seen Blackhawk Down. I know where you come from" Haha! I think our God's honest prejudices are what truly unite all of humanity :)

I think it's fair to say you will walk through an old white man's neighborhood and get the unwelcoming stink eye; but in the same way you will walk through a young black man's neighborhood and get stabbed for your shoes. All things considered, I will take the stink eye over the shank any day of the week, haha!

Welcome to the real world. I think your best course of action is to strengthen your backbone and resolve. Don't play someone else's game by being rude back, or trying to be extra nice or something. Just be yourself and don't let anyone else rock your emotional boat like that. ie. Man up, brother.

West VA, enough said. Don't get anymore redneck than mountian boys, in their moon shine shacks. I worked in Blackstone VA a few times.

I appreciate your sentiment. As a visible minority I have actually experienced a great deal of acceptance within the firearms community in Ontario. That being said, I had a long talk with a Metis friend of mine about Canadian bigotry and he said Alberta is a very "unforgiving" place.

Maybe Alberta is "unforgiving" as you're frind said but I belong to 3 Alberta clubs and I seldom see racism even though those clubs have asian and indian members. Maybe I just don't see it but if it's there then it's pretty low key.
I won't condone racism but in fairness, it's the "old boys" who built these clubs and many put in a lot of hard work building them so it is hard to see younger people come in and take everything for granted and show no appreciation or respect. I see it all the time, shooters show up at a club where I put in a lot of volunteer hours and they sit in their cars while we set everything up for them, they shoot and jump in their cars to head home while the volunteers clean up after them, it happens all the time! Lots of white people do that too so I'm not singling out ethnic groups. If you younger guys (and girls) want to be accepted then maybe you should start out by getting to know the old guys, maybe volunteer a bit and stop wishing anyone to die!

Alberta is no more unforgiving and no more inclined to bigotry than any other province in Canada. Suggesting one’s personal experiences allows them to slight an entire province of people shows a behaviour that is, in my opinion, a good example of bigotry.
 
The current president of the amateur trapshooting association is a BLACK MAN.

He is also the police chief of Detroit.

Never forget the time my brother drove to canada for a visit
He gets to the border and they cannot believe he has a loaded shotgun in the back window of the old ford truck
He says man if that upsets you hate to see what you are going to say after I'm fixen to tell you I have two loaded pistols in the glove box :)
