Questions about double barrel shotguns...

Build a dedicated room. That's what I did. Still not big enough but wife refuses to sleep on the couch so I can expand

The son leaves in September for Uni. He doesn't know this yet but he's giving up 1 of his two bedrooms. For the last 5-6 years since we moved in to this house, one was his actual bedroom and the other was his "office". LOL Soon the office will have racks on all four walls!

Nice. I built mine so solid the contractor was right. I buckled the living room floor but I went well above and beyond the legal requirements. Just waiting for the opportunity to bet a few drunk friends they aren't man enough to get a 5x8 gate with solid 1" bars into my basement and hung on a sliding rack to protect the outside of the entrance

The best thing I ever did was build a gun room, no more safe kisses on anything!

This is a problem. I want to install a vault door on my gun room, but it will be a real beeyatch to get one into the basement and installed. At the moment I have a fireproof steel door in place. Does the job. The room isn’t big….about 6’x10’. All for walls are poured concrete. No getting in other than through the door which will be a real challenge even with the current steel door that I have installed. Also helps that its a hidden room that can easily be overlooked if something is placed in front of the door

It's easy to go over kill plus I've always liked the look of a cage door protecting a steel door while all protected by a 180lb mastiff. Next week there will be a second mastiff as well. Add to the fact that every neighbor constantly watches my house to see what I'm up to I'm more than secure but at least I know I can always hide from my wife for a while. I got a mini fridge and bourbon bar built into my gun room. It's a small room but I'm going to add a drop down flatscreen from the ceiling to.

Back to the op though you could do as I did although it may cost more in the long run. Start off with a cheaper used sxs that fits and try it for a while to see if a sxs is for you. Not everyone can shoot one well no matter how much it costs. Places like interarms surplus sell many for very reasonable money and they can be quality guns. They will be of 2.75" chambers and fixed choked but you can buy one and shoot it and see if you like a straight stock next buy a pistol gripped version or a prince of wales grip. Every couple months buy another one that's different and narrow down exactly what you want and need in a gun and then focus your search on those criteria. As I said it may cost more in the long run especially if you keep all of them and need to build a gun to house them but they can be sold off rather easily and you'll really only loose out on shipping costs or maybe the tax too. The experience you will gain is worth every cent. I started with a Baikal that I paid $375 cash for at a gunshow 16 years or so and close to 80 000 rnds later I still have the gun and other than the forend latch wearing it's still running fine and I could likely still get $300 bucks for it. Now I have several other much higher grade doubles and have really taken a shine to the huglu line in which I just bought a 3rd sxs a couple weeks ago
I've found I prefer straight English stocks and dual triggers even though I own a complete mix of stock shapes and barrel lengths and number of triggers
$1500 can get you 4 used sxs of various features and sell off what you don't like or take a guess and buy a new huglu off the shelf and hope for the best. Sometimes it works out. I still use my old baikal every now and then

Not likely you will be buying a 20ga Parker for 1500$ if only going to be used for hunting a Turkish gun will b fine or if you can find a Ithaca skb they sell for 1000-2000$ depending on condition that would b your Brett bet
If anyone has any Parker 20ga guns for 1500$ please pm me I will buy it

I agree. The Ithaca SKB are highly underated guns. A model 100, 200 or 280 is a far better choice than the Turkish guns. If you are careful and pick and chose there are several older American made doubles that will work well. Like Fox, Iver Johnson, LC Smith and even Parkers.
