Tacticool or competition upgrades?
For the latter I had Tacord open the feed port on my 1301 Comp Pro, added a Nordic mag extension to just under the legal limit, a match saver and a Briley bolt handle. I would add an optic mount, but that would bump me into open against the compensated, ported, muzzle-breaked mag fed shotties.
Can't speak to the former, but Tacord has lots of toys for that too...(no affilitaion, just a happy customer).

Just watched the disassembly and deep dive video on YouTube. He mentioned a few possible upgrades and was wondering if anyone had detailed the things that you should upgrade for operational reliability.
Upgrades to make Beretta 1301 comp Gen 2 shotguns more reliable? I've got a little over 4 cases through mine (1000+ rounds), in temps ranging from -10C to 35C, ran dirty for most of that...and the closest I've come to a reliability issue is where one time I ghost loaded a shell and closed the bolt too gently, not allowing the action to lock. All else has been flawless.
If there's a reliability issue that needs upgrading in these things, it's news to me.

Check out the magload anti double feed bolt release. Solves the Achiles Heel of the 1301. Also, look into a new mag tube follower.
Not really an issue in practicality from my experience

I’ve had the double feed happen several times.
Mine's a comp pro gen 2, so maybe I'm not affected? Either way, I've never had that happen.
Gear is cool, but in my limited experience the only thing a 1301 comp needs is a shooter that can feed it.
It was made for shooting comps on a relatively short range and taking anything you throw at it. It doesn't actually need any upgrades.
All you have to do is be able to keep up with feeding it. Leave the gun alone, get yourself a couple of caddies and practice shoving as many shells into the port as you can.
I have 2 of them, the one has seen 8k+ without cleaning. The other is unfired because I went down the rabbit hole of installing a kenny auto lifter and the project stalled because I'm a retard.

My 1301 Comp is going to get some upgrades tomorrow from Tacord.
Gonna put a Pro lifter in it as well as one of Casey's trigger springs and talk about loading port work.
Other than that and some chokes 1301 is pretty well sorted as is.

8K+ rounds and zero cleaning?! Thats impressive. I assume you lube it regularly?
So one of the main reasons I would want one if these is because of the lifer that moves out of the way to allow easier loading - my understanding is it comes with the gun as standard?
So did you fit the auto loader kit to get it to load the first round straight from the mag? I sense that didnt go as well as it could? I have an auto loader kit on my Versamax so I know how fickle they can be.
I guess I shouldn't say zero cleaning, I pulled a bore snake through the barrel after I filled the muzzle with dirt once. I was switching to my pistol and it was quicker to just ditch the shotgun.
I've spritzed lube on the bolt occasionally but never disassembled for cleaning. Maybe this winter.

*not legal advice* but when we shot IPSC nationals for shotgun in 2019 at equipment check they had a pile of SAAMI spec 3" and 3.5" dummy shells machined to test capacity. So long as they could not seat the 6th round in the magazine tube you were in compliance and I was told *by the match organizers* this was at the instruction of the CFO. 6 rounds of SAAMI spec 3" works out to be 420.6mm (70.1mm x 6) so as long as your useable magazine length was less than that number, you were in legal compliance. My tube ended up being 418mm.
In reality that worked out to be 7 2 3/4" shells in a 3" chamber and 8 2 3/4" shells in a 3.5" chamber for most ammo brands. Add one in the chamber and one ghost loaded, your 3" shotgun can hold 9 rounds.
Whether or not an everyday cop knows that and is willing to charge you is a different story.

In theory the gun can can not legally hold more than 5 rounds (as you elude to that could actually be 5.99 rounds) of the ammo it is chambered for (ie 3" or 3.5").
This of course will equate to more rounds of 2 3/4".
Just to confirm you were running a gun chambered in 3" and with the measurements you provided it could hold 9 rounds off the start (7 in the magazine / one on the gate ghost load / one in the chamber? Out of curiosity did that mean that a 3.5" gun could have 8 in the magazine for a total of 10 off the start?
Looking at the rules if you are shooting "Shotgun Standard" or "Shotgun Standard Manual" the IPSC rules state you can only start with 9 max anyways. "Shotgun Open" & "Shotgun Modified" can have higher round counts from the start.
Thinking out loud 7 in the magazine is optimal as you can do 2 quad loads from an empty gun (+1 in the chamber)
100% correct. I was shooting a 3” chamber Breda B12i. It’s one reason why 3.5” guns started to fall out of favour in IPSC here unless you’re shooting open or modified since, as you said, max 9 to start.
