Biden and covid have combined to basically stop imports from coming in. Our quality ammo comes from Europe, the bulk stuff from the USA. The same basic thing happened when Obama was president and Americans went nuts hoarding bijillions of rounds of .22LR as a hedge against government interference and social collapse, Biden makes Obama look like Teddy Roosevelt and the Yanks are doing it again, only more so. Covid is its own monkey wrench for Euro ammo with the magnet of USA demand thrown in. And then of course there's the Turd danger exporters and importers presumably feel in Canada, it's a perfect storm.

I thought the OP was just looking for suggestions about where he might find some cheap plinking ammo at a decent price.

And I was explaining why there is none but hope for the future. Problem?

Welp, #1, yes there is some; I just checked and he's gotten a few suggestions. #2, he wasn't asking why the price of 22lr has gone up so much or is so scarce; he was asking for suggestions where he could find some. #3, ya, I have a problem with gunnies using every single thread to go off on their political rants. I'm sure you've changed a whole bunch of minds and also helped the OP with his quest, for sure.

OK, I understand your issue now. You know, there are left wing politics behind every issue with firearms in these times and being an angry right winger I do take pains to make sure that people know it and keep it in mind.

Regarding the little squabble going on here, as always on CGN I'm surprised how people will read posts they don't like and obsess over them instead of just thinking 'what a jerk' and dismissing them. Use the 'ignore' feature if people really bug you, it's very useful and relaxing.

Canadian Tire
Winchester 36 grain 555 for $49.95 or 9 cents per never tried them
Remington bucket of 1400 hi velocity was $150. 10.7 cents a round and seems to shoot well in all of my guns

That Winchester stuff, the 222, 333 and 555 whatever the round is called, I don't like it. I had over 6000 rounds of it at one point and I'd honestly say 1/100 are faulty primers. Maybe slightly less but more than any other brand I've hoarded.

I shot about 3 boxes of the 333 packs and my savage loved it. Can't find any more in my province!

333 or 555 is the worst 22lr ammo in human kind history

Tie with cheap remington.

Well I am using them mostly in my Chiappa and Heritage revolvers so feeding has not been an issue. That being said I also have used it in my GSG 1911 semi auto .22 and so far no issues there either. It is a bit dirtier than some other stuff i have used, but it works for me and it was cheap.

That is exactly what needs to be done.
I for one never miss an opportunity to take a swing at those clowns for this very reason and I encourage others to do the same.

The truth is, that firearms and politics are very closely tied together.
It is not sufficient to just state that something is happening, without explaining why it is happening.

Count me into the "angry right winger" category too.

Remington yellow jackets I found to be far better, at least in terms of reliability. Thunderbolts are great ammo IMO, except that they are LRN. I don't really shoot for distance precision with .22lr so copper plated are my goto.

Herters bulk 22LR is pretty craptacular for accuracy, but it seems to always go bang, and is currently the cheapest (still?) available at Cabelas.
