well after failing to get a tag we booked a hunt in qubec. feel sorrey for the ontario tourest industry as there going to see 15k less from our group and will be going to the qubec economy just from our group.I guess ontario doesnt care about supporting northern economys and rather just give out subsidy cks
if the area looks good i guess were abdoning ontario from now on.

Well, not everybody is going to be happy about the new tag system. Even some residents don’t like it. But something needed to change. Glad you could find a hunt somewhere else!

ON tags seem like once in a lifetime now. My buddy in our small group of 4 drew an archery bull tag. It took him 25 points=years.

Well yeah, what do you expect when they give everyone a bunch of points to start with? From my perspective it feels like they just turned moose hunting into an old boys club - if you haven't been applying for a decade or more before they changed the system, you're never going to see a draw in units with decent demand...

Point Creep is a real problem with any point system, seems Ontario decided they needed to make it a big problem from day One, rather than something that compounds over years... I understand the reasoning behind it, and its great for the guys who have been paying their license fees and draw fees and everything for a long time, but I would be concerned about the impact it will have on young and new hunters if it was my province...

Wmu 17 is reasonable for points. Family bought an outfit there last year. 15k would get you and 7-8 buddies flown into a private lake and cabin in a great area with lots of moose. I witnessed two young bulls just walking together knee deep on opening morning and I'll never forget that. PM me if you're interested for 2023 and I can put you in touch

15K you could have flown into an area like 1A in Ontario almost guaranteed a tag! Im glad I got a bull tag in 15b with only 3 points!

Glad you found a hunt in Quebec. Hopefully you saved some cash in the process. If so, I’d use some of the savings to invest in a new spell check….seems like the one you are using is outdated. :) Just kidding…

Yup 1 a is so easy to pull a tag I know some guys get tags every year with no points they pay for the plane up there stay a week and come home with a moose every year ,it costs money and takes work but if one really wants a tag all they gotta do is some research and a bit of work

IMO this is the result of years upon years of automatic calf tags for everyone. They already have a hard enough time surviving natural causes of death, but then they allowed everyone to take a calf if they choose just so they could get some meat in the freezer. It was only a matter of time before populations were low enough to justify big changes in the tag system. They were putting the needs of hunters before moose, which was obviously a bad idea.

As for $15k, how on earth does your group spend that much going north for moose? Not judging, I’m genuinely curious.
