Already have a Canik rival which is amazing. After going thru many reviews it sounds like I'd be dissapointed with a glock unless I spent a ton on upgrades. Are they really worth it?

You don't NEED one, but you'd prob want one haha. I agree how it grows on you. I wasn't even looking at Glocks before the whole freeze. I ended up buying 3, and is now my most owned brand compared to my others lol

If you want something that's going to work, every time, and never requires cleaning or maintenanc, go Glock.

With that said you can clean it if you want... Lol

I’ve never had a hankering to buy a Glock but I’ve shot my friends G17 and remarked how well it shot and how well it fit in my hands and I was very accurate with it right away…

You’re right, nobody Needs one…… That’s exactly why I bought a G48 last month, because the Turd in Ottawa said nobody needs a gun…

And thats all it took to convince me. Haha. G21 ordered.

Good call, you won't regret it. Fun thing with Glock's is you can build it into a race gun with a couple Youtube videos, and if you get to the range and decide you don't like it all you need is a punch (or something similar, like an allen key) and you can change it back to stock in about twenty minutes.

I have to admit when I got into handguns I didn't think I'd own one. I like all steel 1911s. But I shot one on my handgun safety course at the range and it just fit me. I can draw and hold with my eyes closed and open and sights are exactly where I want them. They just seem to work well for me. The only thing I didn't love was the finger grips so I got a g17 gen 5 in 2018. I have about 20k rounds through that one now and it has never once had a failure. 115gr. 124gr. +P+. Gen 4 mags. Pmags. It just goes bang every single time. When I did my black badge there were guys with shadows, 226s, tangfolios, you name it. All kinds of cool stuff. We were all talking and I was kinda shocked at how many had to use specific loads. Like well mine will only run on 115s. I also was SHOCKED at how much mags cost. Like 6 mags for these guns was 700 something dollars. I got 25 Pmags for less then 300 bucks.

I brought a bag of 115, 124 mixed brass and aluminum and loaded up my Pmags. Shot the weekend mixed everything and no issues. At that point I was pretty much sold. Didn't hurt that I won our mini match at the end of the weekend when the last guy had a stovepipe that wrecked his run that he was leading with.

I have lots of other guns to shoot but they tend to come along for the car ride most times.

Also. If you don't like a Glock trigger. Don't screw around with trying to make a striker fire trigger better. Lightening it up gives ftfs etc. Walk past all the aftermarket stuff and for god sakes buy a Timney alpha. It has a different sear that holds the striker back making it just like a single action. Only trigger I know that works like that. It's not 1911 good but my god it's fantastic

They sure seem popular. All I see is people demanding businesses if they will get more Glocks. I don't own a Glock, but personally I prefer all steel guns (I do own 2 polymer handguns - FN and S&W). But their popularity is undeniable, they are certainly the most sold gun since the handgun seize.

Not true at all.
I'm very happy with stock Glocks. Some troubled people just can't leave anything alone and have to modify no matter how good it is.

Those are the kind that would buy a Ferrari and then go to Canadian Tire to switch many of the factory parts to "make it better"...

Addition:
The Turkish made Glock type pistols do seem pretty good, I have a customer that has one and shot it a bunch.
Remember though that Glock spare parts are readily available to keep them going, not so with the Turkish copy.

I don't think someone with a Ferrari would be upgrading it with parts from canadian tire though lol

Glocks are not my favorite guns to shoot (9mm 1991 for the win) but there are more Glocks in my safe than anything else because of all the reasons we have guns, other than race competition and collecting.

To each their own and all, but the only thing I upgrade on my Glocks are night sights, and that's only because I have sh1tty colour blind eyes. People complain about the trigger, but it's designed that way for purpose and works great. It's not a highly polished 1911 set at 1.5lbs break, but IMO Glocks are not great race guns under any circumstances. They are work horse of reliability and function.

And the number 1 reason for getting a Glock ………..they use Glock mags …….

One of the least appreciated features of a Glock, is just how great the mags are. I don't think their is a stronger, more durable, more reliable, longer lasting handgun mag on the market.

The real question is do you want a gun that will still be 100% reliable 30 years and 100,000rds later?

The Canik’s I’ve shot have been nice enough, but very few guns have the track record of the Glock. Further, parts for the Glock are easy to find and they are very easy to work on yourself with few tools required.

Glocks are kind of like a volkswagen -- a gun for everyone. Lots of spare parts and upgrades.
I've owned a Glock and didn't like it. Too flippy. I bought a Canik Rival recently and will try it out.
The Rival trigger out of the box is far superior to the Glock's -- unless you get the Glock a trigger job.
The Rival definitely feels expensive and has a nice weight to it. Can't say the same for the Glock.

As Canadians, we don't care as much about duty-gun reliability since these will be range guns.
However, if you are competing, maybe get a proven gun but you'll pay for it.
That being said, I don't think anyone who competes (I don't) is without spare parts for their guns.
