Good evening gentelman in the optics forum.
I'm not entirely new to scopes, but new enough to be asking some perhaps weird questions (I spent most of my life shooting iron sights)

Would anyone know if a combination of scope with a simple duplex recticle and exposed dial-type turrets (prefferably locking with zero stop) is in existence?
So far everything that I had seen with the exposed dial turrets has some kind of a busy, convoluted christmass tree recticle scheme of sorts.

I like the recticle to be free of clutter, simple and clean, but I like the idea of being able to dial in the distance, without having to hold over.

If such combination does not exist, I would be open to an exposed turret scope with some kind of a simple MOE deploy recticle...side focus adjustment is a must and illumination would be a bonus.

There is no specific rifle which I have in mind for this...I need something I can throw on a 22lr, 308 (or anything in between), once I got the ballistic data figured out.
Anything that can go down to 3-4 on the low end and 12-16 on the high end of magnification would be perfect.

Also not looking to spend an arm and a leg (actually not looking to spend anything right now, as it is a theoretical question only at this time).
But the quality needs to be somewhat reasonable..maybe a notch or two past the entry level, but nothing too fancy?

Thank you in advance for any information in this regard.

leupold?

My old varix iii 6.5x20 efr has a duplex reticle and exposed target turrets.
Im sure any version of leupold with the duplex reticle can have exposed turrets added if they dont come standard.

Find and older vxiii or vx3 for cheap, with duplex and add the turrets through korth.

Yeah the VX-3HD was the first thing that came to mind. Duplex reticle with CDS-ZL dial gives you easy elevation adjustment with a zero stop/zero lock at the bottom. Closest power mag would be either the 3.5-10 or the 4.5-14.

The only part of your criteria they wouldn't meet would be cost. They are not a few notches above entry, probably looking at 700-900 for a lifetime companion of a scope. I have one on my Cross, it's excellent.

Maybe check out the VX-Freedom range from Leupold? I think they're available with the CDS-ZL dial as well for about half the cost.

Maybe check out Sightron. They have simple MOA and Mildot reticles that are not noisy, and target style turrets, capped and uncapped.

The duplex reticle can be a challenge if you are shooting long range and run out of elevation on the dial. The Duplex thick to thin junction on the lower vertical post can give you a fixed holdover point of extra MOA (depending on the reticle and magnification). But if you need more and you are dialed up max then you are out of luck for an aim point.
The tube diameter usually is correlated with elevation dialing max. 1 inch tends to be limiting for long range.

On my .270 Win I have a beautiful Swarovski 3-18 with duplex reticle, but it is a 1 inch tube, and with its zero stop I only get one and a bit revolution of about 12 MOA. I run out of elevation and hold on the thick-thin junction (that gains me 3 MOA), beyond about 650 yards. Not suggesting you buy a Swarovski, but its an example of maxing out with a duplex reticle and small tube at distances shorter than my rifle can shoot well.

I would also say Leupold.
I really like the B&C reticle for simplicity and holdover marks without clutter, and yet do not need to redial turrets when game moves and stops.

Let’s not forget the dreaded Bushnell. I believe some of the 4500’s and even some of the 6500’s came with both target turrets and a duplex reticle.

There they are. And actually a decent price as well.

Thank you.
For some reason, they are only shown with capped turrets...no mention of the exposed turret option (unless I missed it somehow?).

The $900 price tag is not horrible...I should have been more specific of what I consider couple notches above entry level...lol
Anything under a grand would likely fit this bill on my end.

The roughly $300 CAD Bushnell Prime 3-12x40 Multi turret may also be an option to look at.

https://www.bushnell.com/riflescopes/prime/prime%C2%AD%C2%AD-3-12x40-riflescope-multi-turret/BU-RP3120BS3.html

Comes with one MOA Turret and six others for various calibers including .17HMR .22LR plus muzzle loaders and 450 Bushmaster so it definitely can handle recoil. Some quick ballistics calculations shows that this scope zeroed at 100 with a .308 168gr match king will let you reach out to 500 yards in one revolution of the turret.

I have one on a .22LR bolt action, only using the MOA turret at the moment, but plan to tryout the .22lr turret on my next next range trip.

Cheers

The VXII; and better, Leupold scopes can be fitted with turrets by Korth. Some of the Target and Mark 4 Tactical models were made with Duplex reticles and exposed turrets, but not necessarily having a Zero-Stop.

This might be the solution to your scope problem. Note that it has a simple german #4 style reticle and Zero Stop. Has an elevation turret cap for protection but you can run it without.
