As per the Manitoba Wildlife Federation:

To help prevent the spread of Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD), the province has expanded the harvested cervid mandatory sample submission zone and has established a strictly regulated and managed new mule deer hunting season in defined areas along the western and southern borders of Manitoba. The expanded mandatory surveillance zone and a resident-only mule deer hunting season are being implemented in defined areas along the south-western and southern boundaries of Manitoba. These areas will include Game Hunting Areas (GHA) 5, 6, 6A, 11, 12, 13, 13A, 18, 18A, 18B, 18C, 22, 23, 23A, 27, 28, 29, 29A, 30, 31, 31A, 32, 33, 35, and 35A.

For the fall 2022 hunting season, licensed hunters harvesting deer or elk in the area will be required to submit the complete head and upper neck to a Sample Drop-off Depot within 48 hours for CWD testing in these areas. GHAs 23 and 23A will continue to have additional sample submission requirements for the lungs and trachea (windpipe) of deer or elk harvested in these areas to test for Bovine Tuberculosis.

The newly established resident-only mule deer hunting season includes a bag limit of one mule deer (buck or doe), as well a second license (antlerless) and third license (antlerless) are available. All licenses have a $5.50 fee, and the season dates and equipment types are the same as for white-tailed deer. Licenses are available on the elicensing website. The MWF has been assisting the province with securing sample drop off locations and have been informed that the province will announce a comprehensive list along with more information on CWD and the new Mule deer season, prior to the archery season opening date. The MWF will send out information as it becomes available via our enewsletter and social media.

I'd be interested, except I seldom see mule deer. I see we are allowed 2 deer this year. 2nd deer tag is for antlerless.

Have never seen a muley myself. Last year we were allowed 3 deer. 1 antlered 2 antlerless. Is it not the same this year? I need to buy my permits... bow season starts tomorrow...

Download the 2022 hunting guide. Most zones, it showed just two deer. Only zones 26 and 34A allow a third deer.

THIRD WHITE-TAILED DEER SEASONS
The Third Deer Licence may be used only in GHAs 26, 34A, a portion of 38, and only in the seasons specified below provided that a
General Licence and a Second Deer Licence has been purchased and are in the hunter’s possession. Only one Third Deer Licence
may be purchased per year. The Third Deer Licence/game tag may be used prior to the General Licence/game tag and the Second
Licence/game tag if an antlerless deer is harvested.

Only mulie's I've seen were in La Riviere.

Yeah 3 deer with zone hopping. Didn't realize the 2022 guide was out. Last time I checked the supplemental was the only thing out. I guess today is the opening day for archery! Thanks for letting me know it's out!

Yeah I had to choose between archery deer or going for a fall bear this weekend with my Whelen, bear won out in the end. I need friends with better land access :)

Just buy some land for yourself and then invite me... problem solved.

My wife would be down for either a lakefront cottage lot or a quaint hobby farm, but sadly a hunting property won't get the go-ahead :( and I can't afford current lot/land prices anyways, rising rates aren't influencing the prices on large swaths of undeveloped land or cottage lots.

I'm sort of mixed on public land, you either end up in a shooting range or spend so much time getting in it's time to turn around and leave. Sandilands and NW Angle sound like a warzone on opening day!

That's why I picked bear hunting today anyways - got a hookup on someone's baits and reports of decent bears. Hopefully sweating some fat down for bear grease tomorrow!

You are definitely correct about sandilands. Hence why I switched to bow hunting deer...
