Hello everyone,

So after the ban hammer dropped, one of my purchases was a Pietta 1851 Navy revolver. I've always wanted a cap and ball revolver and the ban pushed me to buy one. Now that I have received it I have been looking for all of the components I need to go out to the range (once fire season is over). The hardest thing to find right now is #11 caps, nowhere to be found online or at LGS in the Kelowna to Penticton area.

Anyone have leads on a dealer that has stock?

Thanks in advance.

Big shortage right now, along with a lot of other things. Only place you’re likely to find them is private sales or gun shows.

Rustywood trading will probably be the first to get them in once supplie issues clear up.

Keep checking at your local Gun Shows. 3 years ago I got 1000 in sealed box for $10. 2 months ago saw 200 Muskets caps for $20.
Keep checking and support fellow shooters and collectors at the shows!

It's preferable to use the correct size caps as they seal the nipple to prevent chain fires.

Most multiple discharges are from the blast at the nipple getting to cylinders with loose caps or where they have fallen off.

Seems like #10's are even harder to find. After some research, it seems cap sizes are all over the place depending on the brand. Interesting video here:

I have one. #10 won't fit; but 11 does. If you find 10s, you may be able to get nipples that match the #10s, replacement nipples and a wrench are not that expensive.

Scored three tins of CCI #10's at a local gun store today. Feeling pretty lucky! Also got a few boxes of .454 ball. Now onto powder... what do you guys use and where can it be found?

I once read on another forum guys swearing that those little toy cap gun 8 ring caps will work like a charm on p cap revolvers. I meant to try it myself someday.
