Have done a bit of longer range stuff with older guns just for fun. But I have an interest in making an investment into more long range/precision shooting and working on precision etc.

Any advice on the following?
-Best round to start with (not reloading yet so cost vs performance is a factor) - was thinking 6.5 creedmoor
-Would prefer if it was interchangeable for target/hunting as I am not fully committing to a single purpose firearm yet. I would like the first unit to be interchangeable until I really decide if i'm going to be serious about it or a hobby.

Any help input would be appreciated.

6.5 creedmoor or 308. Both have good factory loadings. Reloading would be the absolute best option though. It’s not difficult to get to factory precision.
Buy the best glass you can afford. I’d suggest used if at all possible to get the best bang for your buck.
As far as gear goes, you’ll never get it all right the first time. As long as you buy name brand stuff though, it can be sold and upgraded easily on the equipment exchange. A Harris bipod will hold some value if you decide you’d like to try an atlas. A Chinese bipod will not…
Keep notes! This has more to do with reloading, but at the very least, keep track of your dope.
It’s easy to get caught up in the equipment, but you could work on the fundamentals behind a savage axis just as well as a $10k custom rig.

I would also consider 260, as finding match ammo in 6.5 creed can be a bit hard to find at times right now. Also 260 match ammo seems to be less expensive as well.

Might be a challenge where you are but find a mentor if you can. If you ever make it to NS happy to help

A few points to help you get into the fun of PRS.

-Most of the PRS matches are dominated by 6mm cartridges; 6BR, 6Dasher, 6Creedmoor, etc.
-PRS will allow you to shoot in production class with budget restrictions, which makes competing without a major investment feasible.
-It is common for lots of PRS competitors to start in 22LR Rimfire competitions, like the Northern Rimfire series.- Search facebook.
-"Practiscore" has almost every match in Canada & USA listed by map, type, class, date, so you can see what is when and where.
-Optic wise, a Vortex Viper PST II with EBR7C reticle is a great start, and can be used for hunting easily.
-I've seen guys in production class out shoot experienced open class shooters using $15,000 rigs.
-I've had good days, shooting 5%, great days shooting 95%, but regardless of my shooting, any day at a match is amazing.
-Any decent rifle with a 308 bolt face can accommodate any PRS common caliber, and be swapped with a good barrel. JC customs is in your area.

Hop on youtube, and search the following for some really good info on various matches, shooting styles, etc. You might prefer the NRL Hunter series, or ELR:
