Eotech / Ar 15

I had one. Mounted to the rail. it comes so you can do that. I liked it until I looked through an ACOG with the 4x multiplier that was even cooler cause you can use it short and long range. Though the EOtech is good enough if you are going to use it for alot of CQB training.

the sight has built-in screw mount that attaches directly to any rail. however if you wish to deploy a buis and want it to appear lower 1/3 co-witness other than absolute co-witness, you need a riser mount. Larue is the best on the market but hard to obtain (socom supply may retail these in the close future)RRA ones are readily available from questar.

Depending on your intended use the EOTech is an excellent option. As mentioned the mount is integral, and so is the Aluminum protective hood. The 512 and 552 series both use AA batteries so it won't cost you a fortune to replace them like the C123 lithiums or the N cells.

I've mounted mine directly to the receiver. Intensity adjustments cover all conditions including clear sunny days and low light with no washout or flaring issues. I believe there are 22 daylight settings and 5 night vision settings(for the 552 model which will work with night vision monoculars).

Going price on a NON NV AA battery model(512) is around $450 give or take. The ACOG(which is really nice) will run you $1300 and up depending on model and where you get it.

For shooting inside 200 the EOTech works well. Don't expect to print tight groups, that's not what it was intended for. However, I have no issues hitting a 12"X12" steel plate offhand at 200 yards.

ETA: I love my EOTech and wouldn't run anything else for a non magnified optic.

Love mine! No complaints at all.

I have a quick question about your setup: doesn't the front sight get in the way of the EOTech? Maybe it's just me, but I'd either get a sight that can be lowered or simply not have one at all.

Edit: I should've read two posts down. Someone asked the same question! :D

I have one mounted on the rail of my Oly AR.

It's a pretty good match for that gun. It's a .40 cal so it's not much good out past about 125 yards (well within the range we see at most IPSC 3 Guns)

I wouldn;t want to try an Eotech out past about 150 (unless your eyes are better then mine) If you need longer then that...there are better choices...

Cheers

The whole point for me anyways, was to have an optic as a primary, and a flip up BUIS. The front post does not bother me at all, it really doesn't matter, the dot doesn't have to be centered so you can aim with it well above the front sight.

The only argument I've heard for complete co-witness with a fixed front sight is that you can use the body of the EO as a giant ghost ring until you transition to your flip-up rear.

Personally, I prefer both the function of a flip front sight, and the aesthetics.

I have mine mounted directly to the rail. I don't worry about co-witnessing my iron sight in the bottom third of the sight picture because as the name implies they are strictly there for back-up and if I have to use them it will mean my EO-Tech has gone down therefore no reticle anyway. I also find the reticle is bright enough that I don't even notice the fixed front sight when firing. I run the EO-tech on my AR and an Aimpoint on my M14 and definately prefer the reticle on the EO-Tech.

I have the 512 and I love it. It is mounted directly in front of the BUIS and I changed the knurled knob for the GG&G throw lever. I can co-witness.

If you plan on doing alot of shooting the EOTech should be mounted on the receiver, not an issue if you are a casual plinker but if you go through 500-1000 rounds per range session you MAY encounter problems with the sight overheating and crashing. Not saying it will happen but many LEO and mil. units have run into this problem.
