Mossberg Patriot rifle

I had one in 243 WIN, stainless fluted barrel
Couldn't wait to get rid of it.
Synthetic stock was like a pool noodle, magazines were Dollar store plastic, sloppy fitting bolt, gritty inconsistent trigger.
Replaced it it with a Remington Model 7 in same caliber.

yee, i shot one in nz for 5 months, bought over counter and went about shootin some critters from 20 to 330 meters....... all i did was put a zeiss terra on it in QD rings an it worked a treattt.

i was shooting factory 140gr Hornady "whitetail"

One of my friends have on in .223; I don't like the rifle, but it shoots as well as the Remington 78 I had with bulk, cheap ammo. I would expect if he bought better ammo or started loading his own, it would likely shoot very well.

.22-250 are inherently accurate. I loaded mine (custom built on a 98 Mauser). on the low to medium side of the data, and that will save the barrel. High pressure loads tend to be a bit hard on barrels in the .22-250.

Had a stainless one in 7mm, finish was decent, bolt was very floppy, bought it for $299 new, never shot it, sold it on consignment at the local gunshop for a little profit.

I’ve read/heard lot of reports of inconsistency between rifles. Buy two of them and one will shoot great and the other might not hit a pie plate at 100 yards. This has kept me from buying one but I am sometimes tempted to.

Looked at one at the store, I liked it better than the Ruger American and Howa.

Still thinking of buying one.

So I haven’t owned one but I have shot and worked on two of these rifles both in 30-06. One was a shooter one was not. The non shooter felt better, had a smooth bolt cycle and stock felt stiffer but wouldn’t shoot better than 1.5 moa no matter who shot and how stable it was.

However the other rifle which felt way worse in the hands. Flimsy stock very rough bolt cycle that I tried to smooth out allot and was always prone to rusting no matter the care. (Maybe a poor bluing job at factory. ) that being said put this on some bags and it will shoot three shot sub moa groups all day long with proper barrel cool times.

I’ve just found mossberg in general to be very hit on miss. I think quality control is lacking however if it shoots good enough groups to hunt ( for me I like between 1.5 moa to sub moa in a hunting only rifle) then I think it would be fine. All depends on your thoughts on what a “good” rifle is.

Cheers,
B

Just got a GREAT Cheap deal on a Mossberg Patriot rifle in 22-250 Rem . Ajusted the trigger down to about 2 lbs and installed a Elite 3500 4-12 scope on it . Now to see if it will shoot under MOA groups OR ? any one got one ? :d RJ

Bought one in 300 Win Mag more than four years ago that was way more than adequate for hunting.

Checkup after first trip to the range discovered one of the action screws was loose. Should’ve been done at the factory, quick fix. See post #52 in above link.

Quite amazing how well it shot, considering how light a rifle it is.

My SIL has one in 25-06 and i tested it with 3 brands of factory ammo, all off-shore origins , nothing I was familiar with or recognized as well-known and that rifle shot everything I put through it into pretty much clover leaf groups. Easy to shoot this rifle consistently, I was using solid wood blocks under fore-stock and my fist under the butt stock.
