On the butt of my Marlin 336 it says "Judd Waterford ON"

Any ideas? I've dated the serial # and it dates to 1955.

The names in plastic too.. looks like it came from the factory with it?

anyone?

Instead of a tacky brass medalion affixed to the stock, looks like somebody had a buttplate personalized for a presentation gift.

Look in the Ontario phone books, maybe you can find him(and give him back his rifle)!

Judd used to make gunstocks. I visited his little plant more than forty years ago, while I was dating my wife. She lived in Scotland, which is not too far from Waterford.

Judd made GREAT gunstocks in the '60's.
Very good wood, nice stock designs for roll overs and monte carlos, grip caps, etc.
My father wanted to use his stocks for the C.I.L. line of firearms, but was overruled and they went with Sile instead.

I don't think it would happen today, as he was a canadian firm, but you never know.
Ypur rifle may date to 1995, but the Judd factory as far as I know , went out of the gunstock business quite a few years before that.

he later sarted build bigg azzed coffe tables out of full tree burls.
REALLY nice, those were with a thick poylmer clear coat......
