Do I really need a glock?

if you are even wondering should I...? then yes.

Pretty much that…..

I’ve never been a plastic gun fan but shot my friends G17 many times and it just felt nice and I was quite surprised how accurate my shooting was with it right off the bat. Impressed enough that when this recent ban was announced, I immediately ordered one.

i sold my g19 years ago, then recently got a DR920 by shadow systems. I like it, but sold that and bought a G48mos and G34 gen 5 mos instead.

I can't imagine there's any pistol in the world I would trust right outside of the box more than a Glock

I felt this way until my experience with the G48. The big take-away for me was the importance of reliability testing and not assuming my loads for other guns will work in a new one.

That said, my #1 trusted handgun is a Hi-Power. Thing just runs.

I should have been a little specific added 'Duty Pistols', a la G19/ G17. G48 is a little specialized. I'm sure there are others, my 320's never had an issue either. But Glocks now have several decades of pedigree.

What happened with your g48?

What happened with your g48?

Just doesn’t reliably feed hollow-points with COAL exceeding 1.125”.

Found out when I loaded XTP’s with N340 using the VV load data. Called for 1.142” if I recall correctly. Thought that was long the first time I loaded it, but SAAMI max is 1.169” and it runs well in all my other 9’s. Figured it would be fine, but it wasn’t. Shortened them up and now it runs them like a top.

My experience was that my HK P2000, once the recoil spring was broken in was more reliable than my G19's which had a few hiccups with a certain lot of Fiocchi 9mm. In terms of ergonomics I found HK and Walther to be better than Glock. Glock wins in size efficiency, their slide is lower than Hk or Walther, and the G19 is a slightly smaller gun. I sold all my G19's, except for one which is up on EE, but I did buy and keep G43 and G48 for their slimness and better handfit. I still don't like the grip angle but no other company makes a singlestack polymer pistol with 106mm barrel for Canada that doesn't stick out like pinocchio.

YPC, you're right. But the niche Gundoggy posted about has very limited options in Canada, so it's worth mentioning.

Lol, limited options. G1. People have limited options because that's what they believe. Enjoy your G guys, and don't be so uptight if someone doesn't like them. It's OK.

LOL most stores only have surplus CZs and a few Norincos left. You go ahead right now and find a handgun for less then 800 bucks that will have reliable parts supply for 30+ years. The Glock 48s were selling for 698 for the past few months if you looked. 17s were less then 800 until about 3 weeks ago. I challenge anyone to show me a handgun that will be as reliable or have the part supply for that price. That is why Glocks are great for a post import ban Gun owner.

Take a look at the gun stores around. Its literally the definition of limited options. All most of us are saying is that you will always be able to get glock parts. If you love your APX that's great! I'm sure its a fine pistol. But the APX has not been picked up by any large military users, does not have any real market share of striker guns and is not supported by most aftermarket parts manufacturers. If you only shoot 3K rounds a year I'm sure it will be fine until you kick the bucket. But shoot 20K rounds a year though it and see how long you can keep it running. Will you be able to get barrels for it in 20 years. What about a trigger spring in 2051 or a machined part in 2054?

No one is sayings you have to like them, I have 2 dozen non Glock pistols I like shooting and could argue are "better guns" but what a lot are arguing is if you were to put a bet on what gun you could keep running for as long as you can shoot them, your best bet is a Glock.

Off topic,
I remember you posted a pic of this pistol when you installed that slide racking lanyard, I believe you use your teeth IIRC. I thought it was a great bit of ingenuity when I saw it. How is it working out for you and have you tried it on any other pistols?

when the situation arises that I need to rack the slide it allows me to keep the muzzle end pointed down range(safety first) for everyone, because no doubt when i pull up to the firing line i get the looks(cant blame human nature though)it works great, no issues, no breaks, easy to replace if broken at minimal cost.

I had to R&D and apply my own for the Apx,2 holes(chamfered edge/gunsmith ty Tacord) stainless steel lock wire .032, and paracord(me) I have not tried it on any other hg, but as long as there is room on the "inside" of the back plate without interfering with the operation of the striker. your good to go. I"ve recently seen someone tap the exsiting single hole on the back plate of the apx and use a aluminum "tab or ear" that sticks out the side also.

you can get many "slide pull" mechanisms for the G which i am very envious of.

despite yet shooting one ...

No offence intended but many would consider those devices a “ladies aid”. Laugh2

no offense taken, it also aids in racking the slide for persons with only 1 arm besides off the rdo, funny eh. lol.
