So who is getting out this year?? Opening day for early goose in southern Ontario is September 8th. Anyone lucky enough to be out today?

Time to post your pics and brag about what gun(s) you are shooting. And to keep the thread fun….for you brave waterfowlers, time to share your stories of those birds that you should have hit….but of course missed miserably……

Good luck and stay safe this season folks!!

I had to miss yesterdays opener due to travelling home from work wednesday night late and needing time to get organized, truck serviced and scouting but my buddy Scott and I were on the big AB honkers this morning and put our two man limit on the ground by 07:20 this morning. There was about 150-200 birds feeding in the silaged barley field the evening before and many of them cooperated wonderfully this morning giving us feet down wings cupped in your face action. I like it when them big honkers fold with the 20ga with only a few inches of lead! ;)

Nice job spank.
Our early goose season opens tomorrow but there has been very little goose activity in my area.
In fact I saw the first flock go by this morning. I haven't seen them in 10 days or so.

are they resident or what? the geese or cranes did not start yet to leave up north ... it should not take that long now.

I'll head-out once this heat dome has left southern Alberta. I'm targeting September 9th or 10th, that's when a cool front is coming in.

Spank, I look forward to watching your end of season video that you usually put together!

I got some good footage this morning on the Shotkam. I'll definitely be rolling them into an end of season video again. Hunting in september will be on hold though after next week until I am home again from TMEP in BC in October and then look out as I booked all of October and November off work!

Our first hunt is in the books, plus 34 today, but we got it done.

I plan on using a 28ga this early season for local birds in ponds creeks and marshes and using my 20s on the lake
I did pick up a sxs 12ga single trigger 3" gun just for waterfowl hunting and I'm thinking I'll use it for early goose. It's sporting extended skeet and light mod choke tubes

For lake hunting from my kayak I'll likely still use my old Beretta gasser as it's plastic buttplate doesn't hang up on my life jacket

Heading up to James Bay for snow geese and ducks next weekend. Can’t wait, my first time hunting anything other than grouse and turkey.

I haven't heard of anyone hunting James Bay in decades! It was THE go to destination at one time and on every goose hunters bucket list when I was a youngster. Who is operating a camp there nowadays? I thought they had all but shut down? You should have a great time up there!

A guy named Ryan out of Moosonee/Moose Factory. He’s friends with a friend of mine who works for the Wildlife Conservation Society. Just starting out his guiding business. I’ll find out more when I’m up there! It’s gonna be sweet, even if we don’t see a lot of birds it’ll be neat to take the Polar Bear Express up and take a helicopter out to the hunting spot.

Good luck to those getting out for the opener in SW Ontario in the morning! I scouted a field I have permission on and saw close to 100 birds but they all landed pretty much together and nothing else moved all morning. Looks like my morning will be a crack at one or two flocks at best. I don't care though....been waiting months for this so will enjoy every minute.

I’ll be out tomorrow even though my day has already been buggered. I’ll be up at 3:00 and will have about 5 hours of travel and set up time for a maximum 3 hour hunt. Fack it…at least I’m getting out. I haven’t even been out for a fishing trip since turkey season ended. Seems like its been a summer of work for me.

Lots of resident birds roosting on the lake this morning. I’ll have to hope they pass my way when they decide to fly off. The water levels in the lake are pretty low and the blue green algae blooms are the worst I’ve ever seen. So bad that all the weed in the weed beds I usually set up in haven’t grown in. I’ll have to assess the situation when the sun comes up. For now I’ve set up in a less than ideal place. What I do know is that it will be tough to get the smell off my waders after walking through this sh!t!

I think I know the place... Any luck?
