I recently purchased a 1968 Brno ZKK 600 in 300 Winchester Magnum.

But I thought only the 602 was produced in 300WM?

Can anybody shed some light on my rifle? Is it a ZKK600 put together with a 1968 produced ZKK 602 barrel in 300WM? Or was it possible they produced the 600 in 300WM also?

Both barrel and action are Brno (CZUB) manufactured in 1968.

Perhaps the following photos may help. Thanks for any answers.

- Darryl

I don't have any answeres. I do have a 300 win mag 602. Always thought it was a lot of gun for 300 win mag. I like the thought of the 300 in a 600.

I’d bet it’s a rechambered 3006. The proof markings look factory but the caliber designation sure doesn’t.

Understood. Yeah, being a rechambered 30-06 makes sense. They did a great job as I can’t even see any place where they might have polished away the caliber designation etc. a very fine job whomever did it.

It cycles perfectly. Holds 3 in the mag. Looking forward to seeing how it shoots.

I have a scoped and customized CZ550 in 300WM that I’ve used to great success on Mule Deer and Moose. I’m thinking I’ll keep this ZKK600 with the peep and use it as a light stalking rifle.

I’ll pull the action out of the stock when I get a chance and see if there are any mysteries to be solved under the wood line.

Cheers!

Pulled the action. No clues under the wood line. Does just look to be rechambered. I still can’t make out where the original chamber marking was… ;).

Was perfect under the wood line, just storage grease from someone in Europe. This was originally a Tradex import.

Took it to the range and fired a few rounds of random Winchester fodder at 50 yards with the peep sight. It would definitely take down any large game within range. Shot the gong at 100 yards standing and smacked it a couple times. Definitely worth scoping to see what it can really do. Feeding and extracting etc worked perfectly. Whoever did this conversion knew what they were doing.

PS: I don’t know why my photo uploaded sideways? But anyway, the numbers on the target denote the correct orientation and group.

That’s cool! Maybe a bedding job a free floating the barrel would help tightening the group?!?!

Very possible. Though again, that was with the peep sights and some cheap random 300WM ammo that wasn’t my standard fare that I feed my CZ550…. and I’m not the greatest shot with irons either. Shows some good potential. Still have to decide if I want to scope it and compare groups to my 550 in 300WM.

I would just too see what you might need to do if you even need to do something at all!!

Decided to scope the 1968 manufactured ZKK600 up with a (circa) 1968 manufactured Leupold M8 4x using Warne high rings. Quite a nice combination I think. Looks great too, IMO.

Two of my oldest boys enjoyed shooting it too at the 100 yard gong. They said it kicked “a lot” harder than their 30-06 Husqvarna m/1640! ;)

I am absolutely amazed at how well this rifle shoots!!!!

1968 Brno ZKK600 (rechambered in 300WM, originally 30-06)
1968 Leupold M8 4x scope
150g Federal SP (Blue box)
100 yards

I don’t think I have ever had a big game rifle shoot this well for me…. Join me in my astonishment! As I think it is the rifle and ammo combo, more than my ability.

Cheers! I definitely think I am going to enjoy hunting with this rifle!

PS: The last photo (target) was rotated (again…)… I need to remember to not take portrait photos on my phone to post on CGN! Lol

Well.

I had a chance to purchase a Meopta Artemis 2100 3-12x scope for a good price, and I figured I would mount a Czech scope on a Czech rifle.

Took it out for my Antlerless Mule Draw that I had in the Hardisty, AB zone. Got myself 2x Mule Deer with it. The first, a small deer and the second a large doe that I spotted and stalked through the hills and valleys near the Military base.

All in, it was a good hunt, and the rifle performed well, albeit with the Meopta, a heavier rifle than I’m used to with my usual Leupolds. But it did the trick. Sadly, my large doe tested CWD positive… but, you can’t win them all I guess.

Anyway. Hope y’all had a great hunting season!
