Make components on hand work for black bear

So with the lack of components I looked through my stash to see what I could cobble together for bear.
The gun would be a Mossberg MVP Patrol in .308 with 16.25" med bull barrel 1 in 10 twist. Area hunted would be thick brush with open areas, so 150 yards max.

What I am looking at right now.

Federal Brass ( yah I know, only looking at reloading it once or twice)
S&B LR primers
IMR4895 (45 grains) (approx 2700fps)
Speer 150 grain Hot-Cor or Nosler 150 grain Accubond, although don't have to many Accubonds

Opinions?

It does look like both will work (I ran it through GRT) with the limited info given. Accubonds would be my bullet of choice out of the two but I am sure that would both be a solid choice for bear out to 150 yards.

Sometimes you just gotta “Run What Ya Brung”

45g too much pressure

16.25 barrel never make 2700 fps with out having to hammer on the bolt to open it

If you could find some 170g for the 3030

Black bear are not hard to kill. Dear are much harder to put down.

I would use the plain vanilla Speer.

I have heard the opposite told many times, but found what you said to be true. When hit right, they sure don’t go far. I think the reputation comes from bad hits and less blood trailing than deer. I think a lot of down bears have been missed when they were right there, but the hunter thought the bear had gone a far distance and gave up.

I use xtp bullets, and have used fxt bullets with great success. No need for a tough bullet in my experience.

Any bullet/combo that will reliably kill deer will also work fine on Black Bear.
While I do prefer the Accubond, I have killed enough game with Speer Hot-Cors
to know they work well on such game. Dave.
