So I opened a crate of ammo and to my surprise the boxes were a bluish colour. Kind of weird I thought but whatever. When I opened the boxes I noticed the rounds are entirely a greyish-silver colour, wtf? So i checked the headstamps.

My regular ammo is marked what appears to be "bxn 68" however the grey ammo is marked "aym 68". I have no idea what to think since I've never seen ammo like this before.

Any idea why this ammo would be completely grey? Is it safe to shoot? I am completely puzzled. Kinda sucks because I ordered this ammo for a range day with some friends but I have no idea if I should shoot it or not :p

Yeah, I am curious as well but my main concern was the weird colour of the ammo. Any idea what was done differently to make the ammo such an odd colour?

Hi

Sure looks like a tin wash / tin plate. Zinc would be the other option, but it should look a little different.

Of course they *could* be silver bullets designed for Central European vampire hunting ... :D

I believe it is zinc phosphate. Done to try to reduce costs. See the other thread for variations. AYM is PS in Slovakia (Ex-Czechoslovakia). I have never seen the AYM headstamp, was it from us?
