Hey everyone, I know moose mainly come in while calling and with proper control of odors (making sure to both mask human scent and spray some cow in heat urine).
However, I had some free time and been wanting to make a moose decoy for a while now (at least 2-3 years).
With this in mind, I set out to make something ideally light weight and of proper size. I had a sheet of 4x8 of 1/2" black coroplast (unfortunately, it was originally cut in half for transport, but I'm kind of glad it was).
I made the shape of the moose cow in the coroplast with about a 4-5" overlay and drilled 3 holes to put 3 white nylon screws with winged nuts.
I thought it was way too reflective, so I sanded all surfaces with an orbital sander and 100 grit sandpaper and spray painted everything with a flat black color:
I cut 2 lengths of 16" of 2" abs pipe (sanded rough) and glued a cap on both. I drilled 3 sets of holes in each pipes and in the coroplast and used 3 tie-wraps to hold each pipe against the body: this is where my legs (2x2" posts) will slot into the body.
Finally, I made a set of legs out of 2x2 posts with 2x3 pieces to enlarge each legs near the body. The tip was made at a sharp angle for easier inserting into the soil and in the back, there's an added piece to be able to step on the each to set it to depth: I hunt in a mossy swamp, so I dont expect that much resistance when setting this up:
I primed the legs with flat black and then went to town with my krylon camo paint cans (note that both sides are painted in a similar fashion):
If I could change 1 thing, I'd make the white spot behind her tail actually white, so there's no confusion on the bull's part ;-)
She's been sitting outside for a few weeks now and I made a batch of odor removing clothes detergent and soaked everything up real good to remove as much odor as possible!
Edit: Alright, not sure why these links are not working, but here is a link to the actual link to the actual google photo album: https://photos.app.goo.gl/VAAgxQUBhtHAZch37

Cheers!
