The Hi-Power FN should have built.

Recently stumbled upon these. It’s too bad we’ll never see them up here.

Think FN would have been further ahead releasing a Mk4 with enhancements similar to these than with their redesigned Hi-Power.

Ugghh, it has a rail. That will drive some crazy.

I hope the "clean break" trigger has eliminated the mag safety.

I agree with you about the latest FN version, it looks weird.

Then buy one of the many that came out in the last couple years that did not have a rail.

Go to the lower menu and select “match”. Updated non-railed variant available as well.

I had a few HP's over the years, without the rail of course. Unfortunately, my last one had the mag safety which I could not get out as the trigger pin was epoxied in place by FN on my Mark III.

I'm not hating it. This has to be the first commerical made one with a rail. Its probably close to 15 years since I owned a HP.

I quite like everything about the Girsan Match Hi Power aside from the extended Beavertail which is excessive to my eye. Otherwise, I like the "updates", including the rail. The inability to attach a weapon light is the biggest single shortcoming of the Hi Power Mk III and its predecessors, although there are various flashlight/weapon holds that are effective as work-arounds. The Magazine Disconnect is easily remedied and considerably improves both the weight and consistency of the Trigger pull. The sights can be easily upgraded to Tritium Night Sights on the Mk III as well. Here's mine:

Here/s one that a lot of BHP afficionados overlook - the Browning Double-Action 9 (BDA-9). Mine has been fitted with a custom Dovetail Mount for the Vortex MRDS. Not a bad final effort by Browning to modernize the Hi Power design. It does provide the shooter with a double-action option for the first shot, however it takes a long, somewhat stiff Trigger-pull to get there. The single-action let-off is much better with an easily discernable "wall" before a fairly crisp and light break. Anyhow, here's the "future" Hi Power that Browning DID build.... at least for a short while....

The other often forgotten BHP modernization is the SFS variant of the Mk3. Interesting engineering solution/manual of arms. Would love to own one of those but never saw one for sale.

Bartok5, looks like you got a very nice Israeli Surplus MK III with forged frame. I have one banged up one and one very nice one with only finish wear. The forged frames are a tiny bit slimmer than the Cast frame MK III's they started making in the 1990's.

Novak's been rolling these into perfection for a while if you got the cash.

I could do without the beavertail personally, but that is spectacular. Quite a few talented gunsmiths in the US who do Hi-Power’s. Sadly there won’t be any more of those entering the country either.

On that note, given the history of the BHP in Canada, I’ve always found it surprising we don’t have anyone up here who does custom BHP’s.

I was able to get this imported before import ban. I had to settle for cerakote as DLC would have taken too long.

FN abandoned their HP design as it just didn’t sell. H&K abandoned their P9S, P7, P8 for the same reason. Sure, the clones of the BHP are decent but dated. SpringField’s auto is okay, so is the Girsan but the attraction of an all steel vs polymer framed autos is overwhelming in favour of polymer. 1911 triggers will always be better.

I understand that if you carry and want a lighter handgun. But in my opinion an all steel is so much nicer.
