Must Do 1911 upgrades?

I would take up golf before I’d trade my 1911’s for a Glock
Oh neither would I, Hackathorne mentioned he had Glocks cause all the new guys were using them in his classes. In this video he’s strapping a 1911. And there’s one displayed in front of them. Work of art machinery.

As much as I love 1911's, without question, if I was going into a SHTF scenario & could only have a pistol it would be a Glock.

On topic.... must have mods on a 1911.... For me: decent sites, change out the trigger for an adjustable aluminum like a McCormick or Videcki, switch out any extended controls for standard ones & install double diamond hardwood grips or Pachmayr grips without thumb swells.

NAA.

I said "Depends when it was made. Newer ones come with upgraded sights, safeties, etc. Older ones didnt." You find that confusing? - dan

Yeah your improper use of a comma confused him. That sentence, as written, says that the older 1911s did not come with safeties. :d

Don’t be surprised if the sights don’t fit it, Girsan 1911’s don’t have compatibility in some areas. For example the grip screws are a metric thread with a different head size, so it’s not a direct swap to a standard 1911 grip or grip screw. If you’re lucky you’ll have one that feeds reliably, I own one and it fails to feed regularly. Most likely a mag issue as I’ve tuned the extractor, polished the feed ramp, replaces the recoil spring and it didn’t do much to solve the ftf. Wilson mags should help eliminate that, it’s a range gun as I’d never stake my life on it. If I needed a gun to defend my life or family it’s the last one in my safe I’d grab, I don’t hate it but I fully recognize it’s short comings. Thankfully I didn’t pay a dime for it so it owes me nothing, hopefully yours is better.

1911s require too much fitting to work properly..... cheap out at your own peril. Consider that gun a fun toy, not a defensive weapon should the need ever arise. My 2 cents.
