Sask Elk?

Unfortunately I have to wait until the 15th but yes, if it's dry in the area you're hunting then a source of water could be a prime location. Last year in my area the most sign was around the few water holes still wet and I got my bull not far from one.

Ya I think so as well, seen a few Bulls on Facebook pages, velvet is rubbed off.

Been really super hot august, not sure IF a guy should even hunt mornings if its gonna be 28 degs?

Archery Elk is 4 am get up
...sucks.

I don't care what the temperature is, if it's pouring rain, boots frozen solid in the morning or whatever else the weather throws at me, I'm out there all day. I only have so many days off and I'm not wasting a second of them not hunting lol.

I am not prepared like last year, BUT I hunt the same area for last 15 years, so it usually doesn't take long to find the honey holes where they are hanging out at.

Him and his brother are barely legal, but if my shoulder allows, I’ll try fling an arrow in either one. Then let my wife try rifle a big bull when he comes to round up the cows (in a perfect world right)

I am not as excited this year as previous years, to get out. Not sure why?

Maybe it was the long tracking job, or the rainstorm I had to haul him out in, and the 300 yards of bushwhacking a trail into him?

I made a liver shot which resulted in 200 yards of blood tracking.

LOL.

Most of my elk are pack out jobs at least 1/2 mile, often more, over some tough terrain covered in dense hazel brush. Every year I work myself nearly to death hunting then hauling out hundreds of pounds of meat on my back but I still can't wait to get out there again. 23 years of elk hunting and it never gets old. Whitetail is by far my favorite thing to hunt and I put way more effort into it than elk but honestly, it's tough beat the adrenaline rush of a bugling bull charging towards you like a freight train in bush so dense you can't see him until he's right on top of you. Not every hunt ends like that but when it does, it's exciting. Elk are definitely my second favorite big game animal.

I wish I could pack out an Elk, but 30 years as tradesman, a couple knee injuries, 2 knee surgeries, plus all the dumb #### I did in my teens and 20s is starting to take its toll on my knees and back.

I think I'll skip OTC elk this year unfortunately... :(

Not enough time to spare in September to go up North. I'll be making up for it chasing mule deer around home I guess! Good luck to all

I was all set for Archery, but sounds like Step-father is not going to with us much longer, my mom is going to need alot of support over next couple weeks. She doesn't deal with loss well. So I might get out for rifle season

Drawn for Moose in 49 so no need to get an Elk this year, although I like going to camp and having a few "pops" with the boys.

Its bittersweet that I am not out hunting, but way to Hot for me, and I usually shoot at least 500m off the beaten path, and multi hour haul out in +30 would be too frigging stressful....

Maybe try a few days at end of Archery season.

I wasn't aware, but it was apparently a really hard winter on the Elk.

Many farmers were finding winter killed animals.

Population in 56, at least in our area was way down from previous years.

We got 1 3 point Bull.

I did find a small Herd one morning but some "hunters" came in from otherside(cuts,) and shot the Bull...lol.

Always nice when your sitting there with a bow and you get to hear rifle shots.

It was a tough winter but I found very few winter kill deer this spring. I find it hard to believe elk were affected badly? They're pretty big. My main hunting area has received a lot more pressure in the last 5 years or so and I have noticed a steady decline in elk numbers and activity in the area since then but never attributed it to weather. Wolves and hunting pressure are my main thinking. I have never found a winter kill elk in the area. Managed to get a cow though during the limited time I had.
