Anyone heard anything about our dear leader intending to ban handgun parts as well due to their fear of printed and home made guns?

I've heard nothing, and so long as it's not a frame I'm hoping this is the case. Have an NP40 frame that I'd like to turn into a firing pistol at some point.

From what I've read, doesn't appear they're banning parts too.

With that said, they could do a 180 and decide to add those to the ban list as well.

I also have some frames that i'd like to build on. Here's hoping we get no more surprises.

CBSA letting them in is a whole other matter…doesn’t need to be banned for them to refuse entry as we are seeing with rifle parts that fit AR15’s.

I've posted this elsewhere when this question was asked. Here it is again for those who missed it.

From the CCFR Website:

Now - many of you have written in asking about handgun parts. So here's the breakdown from Public Safety:

Moreover, the restrictions will apply to all restricted handguns, except for those classified as “antique firearms”, including the import of the frame or receiver of the affected handgun(s), as they are captured within the definition of “firearm” in section 2 of the Criminal Code. The restrictions do not apply to other parts and components, as they are not regulated, and on their own, do not fall within the definition of a “firearm.” However, any firearm part or component that is considered a prohibited device under the Criminal Code or is a part or component for a prohibited firearm will still require an import permit under the Export and Import Permits Act.

So basically, regulated parts that are defined as the "firearm" are banned from import, parts like grips, triggers, etc are not affected.

If handguns are prohibited then would not the parts for handguns be parts for prohibited firearms and subject to the above wording? If this is the case could we not expect some bull#### involving the refusal to issue permits for import or similar obstruction from the CBSA?

Yes. if they become prohibited it's guaranteed CBSA will play silly bu&&er. In the mean time watch for Global Affairs Canada permit requirements to be imposed on part imports and for the permits to take eons to be approved if ever. Same stunt Melanie Joly pulled with the August import halt.

I was going to grab some frames but some one told me not to. I don't know if this is true nor not but they said that you might not be able to complete the firearm as the registration certificate includes barrel length. So when this is added/changed a new registration certificate would need to be issued which would be impossible under the freeze.

So to be safe so far the only frame I got still has the barrel attached.

Was looking for a part for a hand gun and contacted the distributor and this is the reply I got back. I have left out the name of the distributor.

As you may already be aware, the Government of Canada has put a temporary import ban on the importation of restricted handguns/revolvers; the import of parts for handguns/revolvers or warranty replacement has been overlooked and no information has been provided.

Due to these circumstances beyond our control, ###X will have to put a hold on all warranty repair activities for handguns/revolvers only, until we receive further information on the pending government regulation and import procedure moving forward.
