Greetings!

I'm new to Shotguns and I'm looking to make my first purchase soon.

Just looking for advice on types/brands of shotguns.

My primary objective is to go waterfowl hunting, and my secondary is skeet shooting. I've heard from a few people to not go crazy for my first one, but I'm curious to hear y'alls perspective

There are four threads on "first shotguns" on the front page alone. The tiniest bit of effort will get you a ton of information without many of us having to type out the same information we have just finished typing several times. Why don't you read those, and a few that are on the previous couple of pages and get back to us with more specific questions. I'm not trying to be a #### but we can be so much more helpful the more you know and the more specific your questions.

Research shotgun fit, if you actually want to hit much while wingshooting. Many people shoot very poorly, because their shotgun doesn't fit them. It's not just a matter of LOP, drop at comb, and cast, are also important.

It's kind of like asking, what kind of first vehicle should I buy. Yes, what canvasback said, there is lots of information easily available, read it.

But at the end of the day, it's not rocket science. Basically buy a good name brand pump in 12 gauge with choke tubes and just start using it the way you intend to. Then you'll have experience and we can talk more.

Good analogy Grouse Man.

If reading isn't your forte, just go buy a used Remington Wingmaster. One with either changeable chokes or open chokes. Shoot the crap out of it for the next two years. Then you'll know what you want and you will have had a trouble free couple years shooting the Wingmaster and will sell it, if that's what you want to do, for what you paid for it.

It's not rocket science and the $400 to $600 you might pay for the Wingmaster will likely be the least expensive part of the new hobby you have started. Too many newbies agonize over that first pick, that first expenditure on a gun. Whether your budget is $500 or $5000, pick one and get going. It is impossible for you to pick the long term right one now. You can only pick the right one for right now. And that is practically any shotgun that goes bang when you pull the trigger.

Welcome to CGN and congratulations on your CFSC.
Go the top of the thread list and see the grey bar. At the right hand end of the grey bar are the words: Search Forum. Clip the drop down arrow, then in the box type: first shotgun, then click search.
This search takes 0.03 seconds and will provide you with hours of information and knowledge, at least 3 pages of threads.

Kudos for being kind and showing a new member a friendlier method as well as the instructions to get there. Sometimes we forget that not everyone knows all the inns and outs of the forum at first. Just sayin

Yeah, I’m in agreement with this sentiment. I’ve been here 16 years and there are somethings I still don’t know how to do. Thanks bc308. I wish I’d thought of doing that.

Thanks Canvasback and Longstud, we are all here to hang out and learn.
