Best 9mm for $700 or under

Hey guys

I’m new to the pistol-shooting scene. I am looking at purchasing my first 9mm. I live in Nova Scotia so it’s not easy to just walk into a shop and browse the wares. Frankly I am finding it difficult to find a good selection of new pistols online as well.


So to the question....

If my budget was $700 what’s the best buy out there for my money. Keeping in mind I may like to do IPSC someday, parts should be readily available, and the gun needs to be reliable.

I welcome any advice for someone in my position (new to pistol shooting).

Oh I should mention I am in the US on business this week...I just so happen to be working 2 blocks from the largest indoor pistol range on the east coast. They rent all sorts for toys to try out. So whatever advice I can get I will try before I leave, maybe that may help influence my decision.

CZ75 is my pick. Can be had for 615 from Wolverine
I have a CZ SP-01 Shadow and I love it. I've shot 75 B's and they are great! Can't get any more bang for your buck.
 
That NP-34 (SIG p228 clone) from Marstar for $349 looks like a deal
You could get a p226 clone AND a P228 clone for $700

I like Norks myself but I think for what cheroy is asking, he's better off with the almost identically priced ($600)

-Glock 17
-S&W M&P
-CZ-75

or for $100 less, a Ruger 9mm semi

Only at $250 less, do the Norincos come into play.
 
Check out http://www.canadaammo.com/ They have the M&P 9mm and the G17 for within your budget. I own the G17 and recommend it, It have never given me any hiccups. These are both striker fired , so you will get the same consistent trigger pull from first shot to last shot.
 
S&W M&P 9..................I picked one up from Target Sports last summer for $650.00.................Comes with 2 mags..................The big difference between the Glock 17 and the M&P 9 is that the S&W has interchangeable back straps to help fit you hand better............you get three different sized back straps with the gun and they are easily changed.

imho, the browning hi-power, your price range if buy used in good condition, i prefer the old belgium made, adj. sights, the old fixed sights won't work for competition (awful, thin rounded front sight) usually on cgn from low of $550 to $650 in excellent shape, the new rat trap magazines drop free and shoots out fast, test fire a few 9mm and see what your like.
 
For a proven design and proven reliability, 2 choices and both very different, CZ-75 or a glock, try them both and decide, that's what I did and I went with the CZ-75, just felt better, my second choice would be Glock. Good Luck.
 
IMO, the best buy right now in a 9mm pistol has to be the S&W M&P. They are selling for around $650 most places right now and are everything you could ever want in an affordable "duty-style" pistol. They are reliable, accurate and dependable. And S&W has very good warranty and service support in Canada to boot.

Great guns. I would not hesitate to buy another if I needed a new gun.
 
After shooting both the CZ and the Glock 17, my nod goes to the Glock but of course you can't go wrong with either!

One thing about the CZ...what other company makes a pistol bayonet?!?! :D :cool:
