Steel shot for clays

Does anyone know if any manufacturers make target loads with steel shot. Would like to set up a trap machine but don't want all the lead. What do they do in California where lead is banned.? I'm no extremist but have seen what lead can do to trees.

Yes, steel target loads are commonly available. Just do an internet search! Stocks of all ammo are low in these times, but you should be able to find some. I've shot sporting clays with commercially loaded steel shells a few times. They worked just fine.

Kent does for sure, federal has an upland load that's available in 7.5 shot I think.

I am curious, what exactly does lead do to trees ?

I shot a bunch of CT Supreme steel 7’s at targets years ago. They worked fine, just a little more recoil than I like.

No, they banned lead shot in California. The PITA is very much healthy and active.

I have a case of #7 steel trap loads by Score.They work great on Pheasants but definitely have more "bang" than my lead 1145 .

Thanks everyone for the good info. Have tried to find a supplier here in Onario with no luck maybe because of supply issues. Could send you a picture of a local trap range Westward1. All the damage is obviously from volume of shot but the lead sure as hell didn't help.

Looks just like every other trap club around here. No trees down range within shotgun range.
