I’m going to start posting up some pistols that I have come in contact with lately and belong to an acquaintance and will be looking for your opinions on them . Pros and cons sort of thing . What sort of ammo does it like etc .
If you feel like posting pictures of the mentioned individual pistols that would be awesome !

So from what I have found out it seems the AMT Hardballer .45 had problems with slide galling . So does this mean that the slide does not operate smoothly ?

Also read that the pistols drawback is that the use of different metals in the pistol caused problems .

I have read it has a good trigger

Let me know your thoughts and if you have one could you post up experiences and how to avoid potential problems

Oh apparently it was used in the Hitman series movies / video games and the long slide version was used in the Terminator movie

Galling can only occur if there is steel on steel friction, grease fixes that.
 
I don't think it was from different metals, but likely different hardness between the frame and slide, cast frame and forged slide for example, both could be carbon or stainless.
Ruger bolt action rifles suffer from this same thing.
I grease all my pistols, doesn't really matter what grease, nothing too thin, nothing too thick, just your average wheel bearing or chassis MP grease.
 
I have a longslide. Its awesome. I dont like 1911s really. But i LOVE this one. There are spring kits you can get. Same springs as all the other 1911s. Just go to a 17lbs or 19lbs spring. The original spring was light or fatigued over the years. Other than that, get some high quality mags. I have some vickers duty mags that run flawless.
 
I have it in the long slide. posted a video of it on my tube channel. it jams if i put 7 rounds in the mag, doesn't want to feed them properly and I really haven't look that much into it yet. but i like the pistol and want to make a retro terminator laser for it...

Yea, what Hitzy said rings true. Anything like a wheel bearing or chassis grease will do. If you're a sucker for punishment, neverseize. ;)
 
Galling was an issue with a lot of stainless guns from the 80s, AMTs in particular - the Hardballers but also the Automag IIIs and IVs. I think it was a problem because the frames and slides were the same hardness - could be wrong. Some grades of stainless used on those older guns may have also been a little more predisposed to faster wear. Never heard of galling issues with a hard carbon steel.

Most manufactures have it under control these days it seem but you still hear of isolated cases (few batches of Dan Wessons a few years ago). I've heard that Les Baer will not fit stainless frames and slides as tightly as the carbon steel equivalents, and will not guarantee them to 1.5" at 50 yds - haven't seen that confirmed though. Newer Coonans were also fitted to avoid galling problems.

Grease is definitely the easiest solution. Coatings would also do the trick though that changes the nature of the firearm. There is a clear Cerakote. The ultimate solution would be a good hard chroming.

I saw one YouTube video on the Hardballer and he had put some neat looking Pachmayer grips on it . Wood with black molded finger grips .It really syled it up a notch in my opinion !

I bought some of this for my AMT Automag II after reading about galling issues. Took me a bit to find a firearm specific one. Probably could have used any type of grease used to prevent galling but this seems to work well so far.

I like super lube grease, and oils, it is clear syth. and I have used it for many years, on most stuff. guns, hinges, etc.
I never had trouble with AMT, but I never put many rounds thru any of them, other than the 22 mag, they made 3 different lengths in those.
