See this from the social media today. Apparently, the owner received his new rifle and shot a bunch from the bench position then the stock fell off....

I would not spend a single dime on this SR lol

It could just be a bad stock no garentee with wood and its inner strength. But yes looks like they filled the pistol grip screw hole with a rivet so basically all the weight of the rifle is hanging off the back stock. And the mounting of the stock on a type 81 is just dumb 2 pins not even captive that can fall out... folder is the strongest imo

Doesnt surprise me. They shouldve went laminate, I know after studying and fondling mine, i will certainly be making a PSL buttstock from laminate this Winter.

Another win for the sks. Still don't get why people drop almost 2 grand on this thing for 5 shots of 7.62 when a $400 sks will do the same and better.

That could be said for anything really though right, why get an ar15 when you can get a remington pos hunting rifle thay does the same thing. Its the cool factor. An sks is boring

Blasphemy. Lol joking aside the sks being "boring" is precisely what makes it the perfect rifle. Nothing really eventful or exciting happens whe you are shooting one. Too bad the same cant be said for the above lol. SKS all run like a top yet are still the cheapest gun it its class by far. It should be respected.

This Type 81 SR rifle had me questioning my entire beloved collection, though. Tying to decide which of my rifles was on the chopping block to fund this impulse purchase...I even made some ads to no avail... I'll keep an eye on this for a little while before I buy. hopefully this doesnt become a common problem as it is a beautiful rifle and the Type 81 in general has been proving itself well despite a few quirks.

the polymer stock of the svd can be mounted on the ndm86 so imagine it is doable as well for the sr81 but where to get one in canada legally will an interesting $1000 question ...

I have always thought the same thing.
The SKS is a better built Rifle for sure.
The 81 is lip stick on a pig.

The SKS is surplus and came/comes to Canada by the ton. A newly manufactured SKS would be in the same price range, especially since it is milled. There are some cool wooden stocks available in the US for the SKS but haven't one seen here yet.

But yes, this looks like a design flaw, may affect more than just this one under recoil and heavy use. The wood obviously has not much to hold on to and cracked.

TI should get back to us on this issue and offer a solution.

the way canada post is handling parcels i wont be surprised. mine had holes and damages on the outside but the protection protect it as well.

Would not look like that. The wood looks patched up with some kind of clear coat, look at the grip bottom and above, the metal around the rivets looks rusty, also the area above looks rough. Never seen that on a type 81.

Somebody dropped that thing when it was out of the box.

Look like it just broke under basic stress to me.

No tangs, no laminate, no grip screws, no wedge effect, no excessive amounts of material. TI could indeed have a huge problem in their hands if this becomes common.
