I was shocked to lean the Marlin 1895 was introduced in 1972. So, is it a Winchester ‘95 reproduction? Did I also read the Marlin 1894 was introduced in 1917?

The Model 1895 was introduced in 1895. It had design changes in the 1970's

No, it is in no shape or way a Winchester.

Marlin introduced the Marlin 1895, that same year. The 1972 version you are thinking of was a re-introduction of the rifle, this time based on the 336 action. It is not based on the Winchester 1895. The Model 1894 was introduced in 1894. If memory serves, the model 1894 was dropped from production sometime in the mid-1930's. Then re-introduced, around 1970.

And to further confuse things the 336 was based on the original 1895.

Not really. I have two original 1895's and one of the 336 derivatives and the only similarity between the two that i can see is they are both lever guns with a barrel & a tube mag. and the fact that remove one screw and the lever can be removed....ohh ya, and they are both chambered in 45-70.

Andronicus: Why still confused? The information you were working with was incorrect. That's all. If there are any other points you'd like cleared up, I'm certain the knowledgeable folks on this forum can provide the answers. Fingers284 is a good source.
