Transfer Times

Giving a shout out to the great folks at the RCMP. Seller called today for the transfer and got right through. I called as the buyer and got into the queue after the second attempt! Half an hour on hold and it was off to the Ontario CFO.

That is some kinda service. Well done Miramichi.

So can I call to get my transfer approved or am I reading this wrong

Not completed as in "now I can get my firearm sent to me". For private sales both the buyer and seller have to get on the phone with the RCMP and do their part.

The seller initiates, and lets you know the transfer number. It sits there in limbo however if the buyer does nothing thereafter (as I did, on a previous purchase until I was clued in by a subsequent purchase).

The buyer calls in and completes the RCMP's transfer process. Then it is on to the CFO. That is where things have been really stopped up. In Ontario they are moving exactly in sequence of the transfer numbers and no queue jumping like we're seeing in the provinces with lower demand.

Sorry if I caused any confusion.

Just to add to your explanation, either party, buyer or seller can initiate the transfer. Providing of course that you have the necessary info, gun certificate number or serial number and preferably also the sellers RPAL but not absolutely necessary because he will give tge CFC that when he calls.

And here is the really big difference, if either party that contacts the CFC first links in the other party to create a conference call, both sides can complete the request with one phone call.

Calling into BC CFO worked. I used the extension posted here a few pages back. I was on hold for about 20-30 mins. There was no questions asked he just went right to work.

I had 2 transfers I purchased online from Ontario Oct 14/22 approved today Oct 18/22

What info do I need to have ready when I call in?

My Manitoba store to Ontario privet transfer was approved on Oct 16th.
Purchased and transfer submitted on June 8 Reference number 5924***
I had a Ontario to Ontario approved two days earlier, also bought a started on June 8 and a reference number only a few hundred before my other one.

Gee, I just want my order to arrive so I can sell it and offset the costs of something else I bought. These wait times are getting rediculous. July 17th, BC, and still waiting.

An email from Ontario CFO
