Did not want to put this in my Hi Power thread as it might get missed by those more experienced with this problem
Can I use Super Fine Steel Wool to remove the rust from the High Power barrel ?
I would think you start rust removal with the least abrasive medium and go from there ?
Thank You !

As long as it's only light surface rust 0000 steel wool and oil will do the job with no damage. I have removed light rust speckling from blued guns with this method and as long as you don't go nuts on rubbing it you would never know the rust had ever been there. Some Flitz post steel wool & oil will shine the barrel up nicely if you so desire.

If the barrel has pitting, however, no steel wool is going to solve that problem.

Post #2 is the oldest safest method... 0000 steel wool will not remove bluing but with gun oil or Hoppes #9 will remove rust. Mind you the rust you are removing often leaves bare metal ...

Guntech ! My search for the item described in post #2 has found nothing on Google .The barrel does not have any blueing on it ? Not
sure if it did at one time as this is not my personal pistol

0000 refers to a very fine grade... and steel wool is what I always use... I have never seen copper wool and I don't see any advantage to copper wool over steel wool... it's how fine it is that is important... and 0000 is the grade you want.

Thank You ! I was aware of the 0000 being very fine as I’m a bit anal when cleaning other items around the tool box .Leavenworth
