All QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT movie

The movie was developed and directed in such a manner to have the greatest impact on the sensibilities of WOKE audiences.

Reading subtitles can distract some people from the images on the screen and cause them to lose the flow of the plot.

The flame thrower scenes were "toned down" purposely, most people just can't handle the reality of the horrendous affect that much heat has on an individual or the people close by. It's a severely traumatizing experience.

The real thing about the movie that bothered me was how "good" the trench conditions were, so close to the end of the war and being overtaken by both sides on several occaisions. The soldiers uniforms and boots were also in very good condition, which by then, wouldn't have been the case.

The worst of all was that the GEW98 rifles were the only ones prevalent, which likely wasn't the case for the Axis army, not only that, all of the ''Butcher bayonets" had their sawbacks ground off, which didn't happen until after the war and none of the rifles had cleaning rods.

The French troops were actually carrying the proper rifles for the period.

Overall, the movie did serve it's intended purpose. The absolute absurdity of WAR, it's ultimately destructive results and the blind, self entitled insanity of the Leaders the troops and populations are forced to obey, even to their deaths.

I never saw the original but I think the 70’s version with Ernest Borgnine touched on a bit more of the story regarding medical treatment of the wounded and situations with families back home…I can’t comment on the accuracy of their kit

"Nothing New on the Western Front" is probably a better translation of the original title.

Lots of people complain about the 1979 version but I thought it was quite good.

Id say 5 out of 10. It was worth spending 2.5 hours on a Saturday afternoon to watch it. Gory action movie that shows ugly reality of war. Something like WW1 version of Saving private Ryan.

Watching it now...5 out of 10 is generous.
On a scale of boring, with going to church as the baseline, I'd give it 1 less boring them church.
It's a turd.

Maybe it's just me, but movies these days try to substitute special effects for the emotional impact a talented actor was able to in the old days. Not the same, some things go deeper than visual.

I enjoyed it. Where "1917" portrayed a story within the war, "All Quiet..." follows a story to illustrate the waste of war. The subtitles can be distracting but I think an over-dubbing would be worse. Das Boot is much better in its original language, I think. According to IMDB this was not a remake of earlier movies but rather an adaptation of the original book. Having not read the book, I can't pass judgement on that.
As "gun guys" and armchair historians we tend to be highly critical of war films, to the point it can be very distracting to us but try to keep in mind this is not a documentary but a form of art with a message to convey.
Enjoy the picture show and if it provokes thought afterwards, so much the better.

I’m 10 minutes in and losing interest. In the very first battle scene I got confused and couldn’t figure out why the soldier was cycling the bolt on his rifle … until I realized that he was “shooting” despite the rifle showing zero recoil. Literally took me until the 4th “shot” to figure out what was going on. Not a good start.

After a lifetime of learning about the war years through movies & documentaries along with experiences told to me by my grandfather & dad,
I count meself fookin' lucky that I didn't have to go into the fray. I did have fun in me Militia days though. ;)

No WOKE fookin' crap fer me, but the song "All Quiet on the Western Front" by Elton John has been a longtime favorite of mine.

Axis?

The red baron movie from 2008 had a reinvented Manfred von Richthofen portraying a crying sad Red Baron who was anti-war.

It looked soo awesome in trailers too, then woke turned it to poop

The obvious political addition to the movie was the Jewish member of the squadron in the film was a fictional character and meant to show to modern audiences that Jews had actually contributed to the war effort, contrary to what the German public were let to believe after the war. To me the lame part was that the story line was dominated by a romance for dramatic purposes.

But, I believe von Richthofen did loose his enthusiasm for the war closer to his death. Throughout his autobiography, the war is portrayed like it's all a game, a sporting hunt full of rules and chivalry. From what I've read of bits of his translated diary added in at the end of the later versions of the book which had been a home-front propaganda hit, it is understood that von Richthofen's view of the war did change after he returned to the front from his head injury and although he was excited that his his book the "Der Rote Kampfflieger" was such a success and even going to be published in England, he regretted the "insolence" expressed in it: "I now have the gravest feeling that people have been exposed to quite another Richthofen than I really am"

The nature of the air war had changed and become less of a sport: "I think of this war as it really is, not as the people at home imagine, with a Hoorah! and roar. It is very serious, very grim..."

The war went from being a big game to a grinding bloody struggle for national survival, Then he was killed in combat.

Not sure I want to watch a movie that is gonna be totally depressing. The notion of sending good men into a meat grinder for mass slaughter is just so so stupid.

The number of reluctant slaves to match a fighting force of willing and able combatants supercedes the logic for a draft ...unless the war to end all wars starts again.
