Getting stuck with a handgun you don't want

Getting stuck with a handgun you don't want?
I'll be the first to admit it, one of my last-minute purchases is not what I wanted.
unfortunately, it looks like I'm stuck with it!
I'm wondering if anyone else is in the same boat?

so when I sat back and thought about which guns (or calibre) I wanted to add to my collection before the end one gun that popped into my head was a 44 mag.

so I looked around, found a nice Smith and Wesson combat 44 and picked it up.
i assumed it would be similar to my Ruger GP 357 mag or even my Ruger SP101 but it is far from it.
i immediately noticed it was not a metal gun but rather some super light alloy(??)
I wanted something beefy.
did some more looking around and realized I should have picked up a Ruger Redhalk or a a S&W big metal one.

so I was stuck, do I try to sell it off quickly and then scramble to try to find something I want?
is there anything in the country I want?
prices are crazy high....
and boom, the deadline hit and I didn't do anything and now I'm stuck with a pistol I don't particularly care for.

grrrrrrr, it's not a dud of a pistol, it reminds me of my dads S&W TR8.
it just wasn't what I was wanting.
silly ass changes.

just angers me thinking that this $1400 revolver will probably sit in my safe forever with 20 rounds fired through it.

From what I have heard there isn't any freeze till November 9 2022 . if it happens . someone I know told me his son who is in Law enforcement said the so called bill hasn't passed yet . if you are so called stuck with that revolver load or learn to load and shoot lighter loads . that sucks I realize but it's better than it sitting there doing nothing . lead bullets at say 900 fps . phone out east and see if you can still sell it and see what they say . and if not as I said try to enjoy it .

Cops are the last ones I would listen to about firearms law. That’s why half of us carry photocopies of the regs in our range bag

In the late seventies, Alberta put a freeze on automatic weapons before PET dropped the C-51 hammer.

I panic bought two Springfield XD pistols. In truth, I waited a bit too long and there was little else available. Fortunately, they were not overpriced yet and I'm sure they'll be okay. I did get a shiny new 686, so that makes up for it.

Makes no sense the person to person transfer ban. Unless of course they plan on doing the whole buyback thing or something down the road, which is probably the case.
All the 12x classed rifles can still be transferred among the same class of lic holder.

I ended up with a Glock 17 I don’t really want. I already had one but my brother in law got me to grab one for him before they were all sold out. He was waiting for his RPAL to go through and we had hoped we could get it into his name before the freeze came in. Everything took longer than we anticipated so now I have two identical Glock 17s. Really not that big a deal, but it’s $800 out of my gun/shooting budget that I could have used for something else.

I have to do a little more reading on things but I’ve seen it mentioned that there’s a way for RPAL holders to borrow pistols from each other. So that might be an option once his license is approved.

Uh dude,

Your brother in law owes you $800 if he asked you to buy it with the intent to transfer when he receive RPAL. I am in the same boat, proud owner of a Glock that I don’t need or want…. The family member that asked me to buy it with the same intent paid EMT the same day with a complete understanding that they may be giving me a pretty fancy present. That was the only way I was doing the deal. They fully understood the risk in advance though, and completely understood that I did not need another gun, but they where out of luck if the ban came down. At least they can come to the range with me!

Mark IV 22/45 lite. Took it to range and did not like it. Feels like shooting a BB gun.

Along with it bought Maverick 88 and shooting with that is fun.

Not sure about others but I have a friend who owns 8 handguns, and only 2k rounds to feed them. Id rather own 1 gun and 10k rounds...its fun selling 9mm to people for 60cents a round haha

I bought 15 since getting my RPAL in August and I cannot afford ammo :(
but try buying a handgun today :)

Even if you buy a box at a time you can shoot. Reloading is difficult right now if you are just getting started. Primers being the sticking point.

lmaoo it's like that Thread in the General Firearms Discussion about Investing in Ammo
yeah it sounds real fun when literally everything in your life is seen as an investment opportunity. I really wish I had that perspective in life.

My last have come in. Paid a premium for 2 of them - a 34 gen 5 and M9A3. I wanted to cover off some of the classic platforms - or variations of them anyway. Don't regret over paying for the Beretta at all. Kind of regret over paying for the Glock though. Guess I should reserve judgement until after I shoot it. But so far that is the one i think would have wanted to resell.
