Just got my copy, and sure enough, the Rem 700 CDL SF in .260 is listed with a 1:10 barrel twist. Certainly a departure from the "standard" 1:9 factory issue .... and the "popular" 1:8 found on many rebarreled rifles of this caliber.

I've now confirmed directly with Remington that the CDL SF Limited is a 1:10 ROT. Seems odd that 3 of their loaded ammo offerings are 140g bullets which would likely do better with the 1:8 or 1:9. I hope my Rem 700 Ti thats comming in March is a 1:9.....intended load is a 130g Accubond over H1000 in Laupa 243 Win necked up brass. Oh and by the way Remington will be offering 257 Weathery 115g CoreLokt ammo to support their introduction of the 700 in 257 Roy. SRP of the ammo is $50 box !!!!

257 Wby

Can anyone verify if the 257 Wby will be put out in the CDL SF as well?
I've seen a few mentions of this on other sites but can't find it in the catalog.

Model 700™ CDL™ SF (Stainless Fluted)
Available in: 7mm-08 Remington, 257 Wby, 270 Win,
270 WSM, 7mm Remington Mag, 30-06 Sprg, 300 WSM
(2008 Model 700 CDL SF Limited available
in 260 Remington)

Could be another typo.

Ya it will be. They have spent some coin on fresh new tooling so they will want a quick pay back. Hense the price of ammo...holly crap!!! If it's 1:9 I'll be happy with that! Should be able to handle the 130 AB's. The Jlock will be gone when I replace the firing pin / spring and shroud with a peirce precision unit. Remington appearently made a fluted firing pin which came in my 260 Rem 700 S/S DM....something I did'nt know at it!

No Typo's ...Remington confirmed 1:10 is correct! Nor the CDL SF in 257 Roy

My print copy of the 08 catalog shows the 700 CDL SF avail in 257 WBY Mag with a 1:10 twist barrel.

The last time the Alaskan Ti was listed in 260 cal was in the 2006 catalog...long before somebody at Rem got the 1:10 idea!!

Thanks muchly. Looks like I'm buying 2 now.:D

I just checked that out and the older Rem catalogs did state that ROT is 1:9 in the 2006 and pre models of 260 Rem. I printed out the page to store with the factory box. 22" mountain contour cold hammer forged barrel and B&C blind mag pillar bedded stock. Total weight......ready for this?.....5 1/4 lbs!

Makes you wonder why they are going to 1:10 now? Seems they are doing the exact opposit to what sako and tikka have done...going from 1:9 to 1:8 in 2007 with their 85's and T3's. Personally 1:10 would be useless to me....I'd go Sako over the 2008 CDL SF

alot of guys in the states are shooting 100 & 120 grain bullets for whitetails in their 260s. Maybe they are catering for their requests for a slower twist tube. For the record my 1-8 twist 260 will stack 95 vmax or 100 partitions.

That's what I thought!!! What the hell is Remington doing? Did someone mess up their order for tooling and order the 1:10 instead of a 1:9 or 1:8....honest mistake if so but ...no good for the consummer.

like I said, it depends on what the consumer wants. A 150 lb deer does not require a 140 grain 6.5mm bullet. If people wanted a `1-10 twist to shoot 100 grain Nosler partitions or 120 grain speer spitzers, it looks like they got what they wanted

personally I wouldnt dismiss the 1-10 on shooting a heavier, sleek bullet like a 130 accubond or 120 tsx, or 140 partition, etc. you wont know until you try

Well since it seems the 1:10 twist is pretty much confirmed I must say that my enthusiasm for my ltd cdl .260 is not the same anymore. I'm sure it'll still be a good rifle, but not exactly what I was looking for.

I'll be checking out the cdl ss fluted .270 wsm though

Using the twist stabilization formula I believe in .... a 1:10 twist will stabilize a .264 diameter bullet that is 1.05" long. I measured a Sierra 120 Spitzer with a flat base = 1.09". Assuming there is no such thing as "over stabilization", it is hard to understand Remingtons' thinking...other than they consider the "new" CDL SF to be a "varmint" caliber...or as previously mentioned...a small game hunting rig. Too bad, the 260 is a great caliber that has demonstrated its effectivness on NA game up to and including moose.

A 1-9 twist will shoot a 140 grain Sierra GameKing BTSP or a 140 Nosler Partition into sub MOA - I had a gun that would do so. Both of these bullets are long, and have BC of .500-.520. I dont imagine a 10 twist to do much worse, it's just not that much different than a 9 twist. The only reason I went 8 twist in my custom 260 was to ensure that the 140/142 gr VLD match bullets (Amax, MatchKings, Scenar, Berger) would stabilize, which they do. Most guys who shoot 260 for hunting will be shooting 125 grain Partitions, 120 tsx, 129 interlocks, 140 partitions, 140 hornady, etc - a 1-9 twist or Id bet even a 1-10 will work just fine

I look forward to hearing how the supposed 10 twist CDL SF Ltd 260s shoot, maybe Bronco Mudder will let me test his before it ships out :D ;)

Maybe because its a 24" tube they figured a 1:10 would work. Personally...I won't be the guy spending $1k to find out if it works or not. I'm going to be too busy with the 1:9's I've got finding pet loads for 100g BT's for coyote and dirtpigs and 130 TSX's, 130 AB's for deer and such...then the 108g, 123g and 139g Lapua Senars in the Sako. Hey Tod, any word on how well those Talley lightweight extended rings worked out for ya? Thinking that those will end up on my Ti as well. Where can I get them in Canada?

I just noticed you new avatar Tod....Gee let me guess that the 338 Federal will now be the king of 338's...just like a 375 Ruger fan we all know claims of his pet rifle.

Wish Remington had lots more rifle selection in that caliber..

talleys are great, in my opinion. light and strong, and they look good to me. ive never used the extension ultralights but I suspect they would be just as good, just goofy looking

338 federal, the 260's back alley brawling cousin ;) the king, of 338s :D
