To be clear, I didn't search to see if a similar thread exists. I'm a handloader but have several rifles with lots of factory ammo that I shoot. When I go on a big trip, premium bullets in my handloads are essential. Most commonly my default is nosler partions, but i play with accubonds, and Barnes ttsx. Now I live in country with tiny blacktail, literally could ethically hunt them with expanding 22 centerfire bullets....but I don't.

Recently came upon a stash of 25-06 factory ammo(11 boxes), and have acquired 5 boxes each of 270, and 264wm.

Here's the question. What projectile is loaded in factory ammo? I will give a few examples, but feel free to add others you may know.

Federal fusion.....
Winchester silverbox(cheap walmart/can tire)....
Federal blue box.........

I read an article on the federal fusion bullet when they first came out. They basically put the lead bullet into a vat of some sort and shoot microscopic copper particles at it, which bond to the lead. Once the bullet is formed into bullet shape, they smash fault lines into the tip and re form the bullet.
I have had very good luck with these bullets. They have held together and were very accurate in all the rifles I tried them in.
The federal blue box stuff might not be as good of a bullet, but it has always been the one I use to determine the potential accuracy of a rifle. It is usually very accurate ammunition.
As far as the winchester stuff, I don't have a comment, because if a rifle doesn't shoot well with the two mentioned above, I try Hornady stuff and that usually does the trick.

The Fusions are swaged lead cores with electroplated copper jackets (which are then swaged again to final shape). I agree, they are a good bullet. I've had at least decent accuracy and the performance is great on deer.

The cheaper Federal lines (Powershok, Non-typical) are made with Speer bullets, both owned by the same parent company. Remington Ammo is also owned by Vista Outdoor, but I'm not sure who actually makes the Core-lokt bullet - I believe "Remington" still makes them.

No idea who makes Winchesters Power Point bullet. Or the "extreme tip" piece of sh!t.

Fusion bullets are also made by Speer, their component version is labeled as Deep Curl. It is a bonded bullet.
Federal blue box as mentioned are Speer bullets; some were Hot-Cor, others were labeled as Uni-Cor - never did learn the difference between the two. Speer and Federal both owned (or were owned) by parent company ATK, if I recall correctly.
Winchester silver box...some are their SilverTip, while others are their Power Point...depending on caliber and weight. Always had good performance on game with the Power Point.
