Is there anything still available to us other than the browning bar, or that type of gun? I want a 308 semi. Whether it's a rifle or a receiver and I'll build a rifle. There must be something.
There are a few Famae SG542 available. Currently there are two of them on #######. However they are a spendy option ... although a very nice option, but one that is really not "optics ready".
A friend has a SG542 and we shot it last week. Worked well and clanged every plate we aimed it at.![]()
What distance were you shooting at? Genuinely curious, as both 542s that I owned would not shoot under 4 MOA with bulk ball ammo and 3 MOA with 168gr Federal Gold Medal Match. As a result I ditched them as the least accurate battle rifle that I have ever owned. This is why I never recommend the 542 in these .308 "tacticool" threads. Your experience obviously varies, which is why I ask. After all, engaging "minute of man" on a full-size IPSC steel at 100m is a very different challenge than a 2 MOA group on a 6" plate @ 200m. At the $5K prices people are demanding for a 542? I believe that you are far better off to save another $1K for a B+T APC 308....
Kel tech RFB is likely the cheaper most accurate choice today. It was a 1moa gun with premium hunting ammo for me with 3 round groups, opened up to 1.5moa after that.
It's different, but a much better rifle accuracy wise than the Tavor
Used RFBs go for ca. $3500 these days. There have been a few show up on #######.
