Some fun photos by way of TFB and NATO Enhanced Forward Presence Battle Group Latvia:

Canadian soldiers became familiar with the personal weapons (the VZ-58 7.62 x 39 mm assault rifle) of Slovakian soldiers during a shared live fire exercise, hosted by members of the Slovakian Military. We train to increase interoperability and maintain readiness.

Looks like a CZ 858, the popular 2009 batch was a converted full-automatic so they say. Most folders were 16 inch restricted and from the 2007 batch.

Old stuff, I like the VZ-58 better.

I had a Vz...The T81 isn't more accurate, but certainly not less so.
Ergos are comparably so-so, but the T81 recoil impulse is infinitely better.

No experience with the T81, so can't speak to its recoil. Did a fair bit of testing years ago with the CZ (long barrel) with different brakes, and that's where the game was at with that pattern rifle. An easy 1+ lb lighter than AK pattern guns, there was no weight to absorb the recoil impulse, and it really wanted to jump around. It was plenty overgassed, would lob the brass into the next county. But the movement of the bolt was quite smooth, and with the right brake, it was a downright pussycat. Quick compilation of 5 of the brakes I tested:

Miss that thing. With a forward mounted RDS, it was the best coyote gun I've ever had. Side folder stock made it easy to tuck into the truck or tractor, light enough to carry around for a long walk on the fenceline, plenty accurate for "minute of coyote" out to almost 200 yards, and with the Hornady flex-tip bullets, a hit was an instant drop, no cripplers.

Sweet set up. I can't watch the video right now, but what's the handguard called that you used to mount the optic?

If someone likes the Cz858 or Vz58, chances are you'll like the T81; assuming one can look past its Chicom origins.
