Quite interested in this as well. Looking for a first rifle and precision rimfire appeals to me. The CZ seems like a good starting point, of which there are several, and plenty of available upgrades. Knowing what matters up front from those who have them would be helpful.

I think the 457 is the perfect .22 bolt starting point, because it's so modular and easy to work on--with plenty of aftermarket support.

Mine started life as a CZ 457 MTR, but since added an IBI barrel, KRG stock, PST II scope. Couldn't be happier with it, so the build is "finished". It's consistently sub MOA out to 100M w/ SK Rifle Match and helped me win or place in a number of local PRS matches.

Your never alone in the contemplation of what firearm to purchase! Everyone wants the best bang for the buck!

I have been watching your thread as well, and have been contemplating a bolt action since selling my RimX. Was leaning towards the CZ as well, as it is a decent price point, but stuck on the Annie's as well at a little more than double. Probably not double the accuracy, but they are a step up in fit and finish on the walnut stocks. I know, thread derail, but I haven't decided yet.

So I'll be watching this one as well and following your quest.

My short experience... Started with a CZ455, got a trigger kit through YoDave. Little tricky putting it in but made for a nice light trigger pull with very little creep. Reasonably accurate but not great. About an inch at 50 yards. Never liked the way the safety operated and did not like the 90-degree bolt throw (only a problem when you have a scope). Got a 457 Varmint very recently. Much nicer safety and 60-degree bolt throw. More accurate more like 3/4" at 50 yards although I didn't do a lot of testing. I didn't really want the match chamber of the MTR 457 (more types of ammo work in the regular style chamber). It has an adjustable trigger that needs a little fine tuning, remains to be seen how well it will work. Trigger spring for lighter pull is available from YoDave if needed. Both these CZ rifles feel like a better-quality rifle than my Savage Mark 2 SV-SR. Parts are smoother and have a better finish, bolt runs more smoothly, magazine goes and out more easily as well. However, the Savage is very accurate for the price (more accurate than the CZ455 at least).

Good to know Wallz . The more the merrier to find out what’s what . I think you mind is made up though LOL

First i bedded my mtr stock and added the yo dave spring, which gave me a constant 10 1/2-11 onc trigger, then came the krg chassis with the delta javelin scope, sub moa at 50 meters and 100, a pleasure to shoot.

I, too, have a 457 MTR with a 20" barrel and it shoots targets similar to Toolman's with SK Rifle Match. I am still going to try other ammo but haven't had the time. I love the walnut stock and haven't done any trigger mods yet.

I have three American 457’s, .22, .17HMR, .22WMR, all bone stock. Two have Leupold glass, third one will have shortly. Will likely take all three out on my annual gopher safari, along with two or three 455’s. I have no doubt that there are other rimfires that would do the trick, but I like CZ’s.

Some thoughts I’m having .
#1 The 457 American .I do like the walnut stock but it’s a 24 inch barrel for the .22 LR isn’t that a little longish for the bush ?

#2. The 457 Varmit . I like the walnut stock it has a shorter barrel 20 inches but it’s heavy . It would be good for targets at the range but maybe a little heavy for packing around in the bush

#3 The 457 Royal . Not sure about the stock I think it has a cheek piece , that might be okay . It’s available in 16 inch barrel or 20 inch

#4 Then there’s the 457 Synthetic . Not sure about that stock ,wonder if it will turn into a bit of gluey mess as the sun gets to it over time
Available in 16 inch and 20 inch

If you can’t tell by now I really like to do my homework and I’m anal

So those are the ones I’m looking at all in .22 LR

Your thoughts please !

AlFlaherty's has a 457 American with a 20 inch barrel. Site sponser as well. Not everything on the CZ USA website is what we get here in Canada if that is what your using as a reference. We often get different configurations if ever so slightly. I also find the CZ websites to often be poorly managed, and often delete discontinued rifle information which is a pain when wanting to learn more about a specific rifle they made in the past.
