So, other than keeping up with the OIC and other law changes I haven't been at the cutting edge of the firearm community in a while. Pandemic, new kid, other hobbies, blah blah. Anyways, I had originally intended to hang onto my AR despite the governments 'generous' offer, then I figured why not take the cash and buy a non-restricted 5.56 MSR style rifle that I can actually shoot?! I'm considering the WK180C Gen 2, mostly because of styling over the other options and the price is right, but also because all my current Gucci AR bits will fit. I'm sure the last point can be said for other rifles too. Any glaring issues with this rifle? Are there better options at the same price point? Steer me in the right direction folks - Cheers!

Buy once cry once, don't waste your time on these discount canadian AR180 clones they suck. Save your money for something better like a Bren or X95.

+1. I don't have a Gen 2 WK180, but I have a Gen 1.5 WK. For what you are getting, it would be a much better experience, if the finances allow, to grab an IWI Tavor X95. That said, I know not everyone likes bullpups, but it is no roll of the dice as the platform is proven reliability wise. The G2 WK is still relatively new and some here have posted some QC/QA issues with it. Some, however, have had no issues with the Gen 2s. Still, for dependability, reliability the X95 is a solid choice.

By the way, congrats on the new addition to the family and being a new parent (or a parent once more)

Might want to splurge on a Sterling R18, or see if the BCL Siberian turns out well. If you insist in the WK Gen 2, you should get a TNA adjustable gas block dial things down. If you have a Gucci barrel with rifle length gas port you can get a rifle length piston from TNA, or a mid length piston for.a matching barrel from Third Echelon.

Buy once cry once is my motto. I actually say it all the time. Thanks for speaking my language and being honest. I didn't realize these rifles had such a bad rep. I'll wait and see how the Gen2 fairs for others, but I guess I shouldn't hold my breath...

Thanks! First addition - a boy. Being a dad is loads of fun! Already have his first rifle sitting in the safe lol...

Bullpups are cool, and I get it, but they aren't my thing. I'm all about anything CZ so the Bren is right up my alley, but the $3k+ price tag will be hard to justify. Maybe if I say the Bren is his first rifle.....

I'll check out these options - Thanks! Current AR gas setup is mid-length.

If you buy a gen 2, dimple the barrel for the gas block set screws and buy the TNA adjustable gas upgrade to slow everything down. That should go a long way in keeping it reliable.

Personal opinion, being a bitter first gen owner - don't waste your money. If youre set on a 180 buy a Sterling R18, take the chance on the cheaper Templar, or build a 180 from scratch with as few Kodiak parts as you can get away with.

I am definitely not set on a 180, just seemed like a logical sidestep. I'd even consider a 9mm platform like the Freedom Ordnance FX-9.

Awesome, bro. I will say, though, that they will grow up fast and time will fly by. Enjoy the times now when they are smaller and don't talk back to you.

Saw your subsequent post about considering an FX9. I would 100% recommend this over the 180, regardless of the 180's generation. My FX9 comes with me to every weekly range trip, along with my other rifles and I never tire of shooting the FX9.

If you are looking for something else along the lines of a .223 semi, some stores still have the HK SL8-4 or 5 available. Those are slightly less than the Bren, but superb to shoot and accurate too.

Has anyone fixed the issue with magazine retention on the Jard J180? It's rather brick-ish, but does allow use of the gas tube, gas block, barrel and handguard from a donors AR-15. If there's no way to fix the mag issue, that's a deal breaker :-( .

I hear you... my daughter just turned 4 and she's had her first handgun waiting for her in the safe for two or three years now!

Oh, and as others have said, buy an X95 or Bren2.

I’ve recently been through this selection process too. Decided against the purchase of either, but if I had the $$ to burn, I would get the X95 first. Reliable work rifle short and handy. Then the FX9. Once I reasoned through the process, reloading components win out, especially because 223 and even more 9mm are not powerful enough to do what I want done, considering my limited budget.

"Better" is a subjective notion. The Bren is horrendously expensive and restricted. The X95 is 2.5 times the price, doesn't handle like a conventional rifle and has a CRAP trigger.

As we all work for our money, the WK, on a performance and quality per dollar evaluation comes out quite well. Yea, it may need going through to make sure all the fasteners are tight and maybe a part will break and need to be replaced but otherwise it is a good value for most shooters and is the closest to an AR15 in handling,. function and performance.

Noob take but okay bud...this whole post is an absolute cope towards buying a WK. X95s can be had for around 2500 before tax with some retailers or if you look for private sales you might be able to do even better. I'm not sure where you are getting 2.5 times the price out of. It is absurd to try to run down a competent weapon system like an X95 in favor of a gun that is unrefined pile of junk(make sure you buy 5 spare pistons for your WK180 load out). Sure the X95 doesn't handle like a conventional rifle but only a fudd with 0 ambition to train with the gun or training in general would make a debate out of that. The trigger is fine in that gun for its intended purpose and I wouldn't even bother upgrading it where as with the TAR21 its a must. I wouldn't stake an investment into a gun like a WK or any of the other 180 garbage rod clones that are produced over an X95, B&T, ACR or Bren. Who wants to chance having parts breaking within 2000 rounds and dealing with a rodeo. I've read enough from people who learned this the hard way to know why even chance it. Cost is irrelevant when you bought a gun that is bound to crater.

And to say it comes close to a well built AR15 in performance is laughable at best...

Noob? I've been shooting for 36 years.

We paid $1200 for a WK180. X95's are running close to $3k. That is almost exactly 2.5x the cost.

I wasn't trying to "run down" the X95. I purchased a LH bolt for the Tavor, just in case I decide I need one in the future. Saying the Tavor has a crap trigger is simply speaking the truth. If you think the Tavor trigger is fine then you don't know what a good trigger is.

As a lefty, I have spent my 36 years in the gun community adapting to firearms not designed for me. I have competed in IPSC, Service Rifle and long range competition. I have also placed hits on a target further than anyone you know.

Cost is always relevant when you have to pay with your own money.

I can appreciate that folks are recommending $3k rifles, and I'm sure they are the superior firearms. I wasn't considering spending that much $, but I really don't want to fiddle around with something new and buy spare parts in advance. Like I said, I'll wait and see how folks make out with their Gen 2's and go from there.

Happy to hear you love your FX9! They look like handy, fun shooters - non-restricted too! It would share ammo with my pistol, so that's a bonus. Have you ever fed yours reloads? Any issues?

For my two cents ; I have never owned a WK180 , but know a few guys who have tried them . Most all of them have either already sold/traded them off , or are trying to sell them . Hard to know what Trudeau will ban next , but there are certainly better options out there . Even the Ruger PCC has built up a bit of a following , and it won't break the bank; plus you can use 10 round mags .
