Hey guys

what are your thoughts on the Lee Classic Loader kits?.

I'm only looking to load 110gr .30-06 rounds so no real need to spend $500+ on loading equipment. I would consider buying a better powder measure to keep things safe.

anyone have experience with the 3006 and 110gr loads? hows accuracy?

The Lee sets are good and that includes the powder measure and scales.

The Lee Classic Reloader contains everything you need to begin loading (except a hammer). Kit includes Sizing Die, Decapping Chamber, Bullet Seater and Priming Chamber, Priming Rod, Powder Measure, load data, plastic case and complete instructions.
 
my 30-06 (3 of them actually) all have shot the 110 grain Hornady Vmax well, over the same powder charge (58 grains of RL15). 3350-3400 fps and under 1 inch groups at 100 meters. Start low and work up slowly to 58

What I meant to say is that all Lee sets are good, including the Classic and if you are looking for a powder measure, to use instead of the scoop, any of the Lee measures including the Lee Perfect Powder Measure are good. I have a powder measure, but since I usually only load about 10 rounds at a time I find it more convenient use one of the scoops from the Lee Powder Measure Kit. I verify each load with a scale.
 
110 grain bullets are really for the .30 Carbine. Using them in a .30-06 requires paying close attention to the OAL.
Lee Loaders neck size only so you won't be able to load for a semi-auto. If you have one. Pitch the scoops and use a scale. The scoops can vary the charge plus of minus a full grain.
 
110 works perfectly well in 30-06. With Hornady 110 SP or V-MAX over 53.0 IMR3031 I consistently obtain 1MOA 5-shot groups at 100m. The only thing I would strongly advise is to use Lee Factory Crimp, given that the bullet is not sitted that deep.

obviously you havent seen the 110 grain Vmax. they look like most 125 grain bullets

you will probably need a small base sizer die, for the semi auto
 
Thanks everyone so far for all your help

I found a Lee challenger kit with full size press....ect for $169.99+tax at my local shop is this a good price?. Is there anywhere else I should be looking Ebay is out the kits are going for $100+$65shipping+duties&brokerage=Retail here.....but is there any canadian mail orders who carry these I have checked SIR and Lebarons and cant find the kits.

So lets see if I have this straight on what I need

Lee challenger kit
Full size dies for .30-06
small base dies? do these come with the Lee kit or are they seperate peices?if so do I just ask for small base dies?

Now as I crunch the numbers if I'm going to put out this money to load one bullet I might as well load for everything from Varmint to Moose my only problem is I dont have a ton of storage for gun powder is there one powder I can use to make high velocity varmint rounds and heavy hitting big game rounds?.

These would be my main loads is it possable to get one powder to use on all these rounds.
110gr V-max->Varmint 3400fps
150gr AccuBond or Partition-> white tail/black bear 2900fps
180-200gr AccuBond or Partition-> Moose 2600fps
 
4895 would be a great choice for 110 grain loads in 30-06, and work ok with the heavier loads. If you want to keep things a bit simpler, Varget or RL15 or IMR 4064 would work great with both 110 grain loads & 165 grain loads. If you choose a bullet like a 165 Nosler Partition, Accubond, or Barnes TSX, they will handle anything from deer to moose without a sweat!
 
If you can't find Lee stuff locally, Higginson powders should have it. Further to the dies bit, my first centre fire was a Rem 742 in 06 and I reloaded with standard lee pace-setter die set, worked fine. Your Benelli may have a tighter chamber thus requiring the small base sizing die, but maybe not, baby steps.

So in the mean time while I am trying to figure out what way to go with the reloading equiptment I sent ellwoodepps a email on some remington 125gr accubonds and their reply is as follows.

you will be hard pressed to find cartridges lighter than 150-grains. There is the 125-grain Remington load which you have indicated ($20.99 per box of 20 rounds), however the only other light-weight load for this calibre is the 55-grain, saboted Extender round being offered by Remington.

The problem with going to a light load in a semi-automatic rifle like your Benelli R1 is that these light loads to not provide sufficient back pressure to cycle the action in your gun, resulting in jams and stoppages.

the part that concerns me is the bit about the light loads will not cycle my action properly....is this correct? I mean a 110gr bullet loaded to 3400fps should cycle the action just fine if a 180gr bullet loaded to 2400fps works fine right?.
