I have a friend who is an amourer for one of the police forces and works on some of my guns every once in a while when I need it. Well in this case my M-29 is in need of some work so he said get a temp ATT and bring it over.
Weve done this numerous times all by the book and legally. I allways aquire a temp ATT and off its goes.
Today I called probably spoke to the same retired opp I usually get who in the past got me my ATT and was denied.
"I would like to get a TEMP ATT please"
"why"
"I would like to bring the firearms over to such in such to get some work done on it"
"Is he a licensed gunsmith"
"no in this case he does not need to be, he's just helping me with something"
"all repairs on a resticted firearm needs to be done by a gunsmith"
"he's not alterting the firearm in any way"
"you said it needs to be repaired right"
"yes, I told you the truth"
"well I wont issue an ATT for that unless its going to a gunsmith"
"Ive gotten ATT's from you guys before for this exact thing has something changed"
"we will not issue an ATT for something like that unless its going to a gunsmith"
"If I had lied and said it was going to him for evaluation for the purpose of a potential sale would I have gotten an ATT"
"Yes, but you didnt say that did you, you said its going to him for repairs"
"yes and I also said I would be taking the gun with me not leaving it there"
"we will not issue an ATT for something like that unless its going to a gunsmith"
To be honest I dont know if he is right or wrong but the way he spoke to me was way out of line, he even raised his voice. Very unprofessional, but really they can do whatever they want and there is no accountability is there.
Anyhow I ended the call with a thank you and that was that.
Anyone know if this is correct in my denial of an ATT, tought me a good lesson today on what to tell these guys.
