Wipeout is a very strong cleaner if you want to do a deep clean on the bore. It dissolves copper easily so its hard on brass brushes.
I’d skip the Boresnake though. Just use a piece of grass trimmer cord. You just tie a knot in one end and feed patches on the other end.

Pretty easy to hold a rod centered on the chamber of a Number One... on the BAR you have to insert the rod at the muzzle and then in the breech thread the brush on and then remove the rod... I do that as carefully as possible on all actions that have no rear access.
I use rods and patches on my hunting and precision rifles but have no problem using boresnakes on black rifles, PCC's and handguns. I think a collapsible rod and a few patches is a better tool for field use, where you might actually have to poke something out of your bore.

Exactly, try removing an obstruction with a rope lol.
On gun you that you clean by the muzzle, I use a brass - cone or flat shaped guide. The rod never touch the muzzle that way. I clean all my lever, Garand, Sharp that way. Thats cheap protection. Got them from Brownell but they can be found sometime, in the black powder section of gun store.
Never ever used a boresnake to clean my gun.

I make my ones outta Delrin on the lathe. My cleaning rods are all plastic coated, one piece units and I never run patches so tight that they cause the rod to bend whilst being pushed though the bore.
I had a guy call the shop yesterday asked how much it would cost to have his stuck / broken bore snake removed I told him him 600-800$ he asked why so much I said that the cost of a bbl and install he said I was afraid that was what was needed
Been using them for years at the end of every range session. 22lr, 9mm, 45auto, 223rem, 7.62x39mm, & 12ga. Never even realized I could be in grave danger of creating an obstruction. Mixed feelings to say the least. Glad I stumbled upon this thread.

Bore snake has 2 parts…pull string and the rope with or without a brush at the beginning of the rope.
Pull string is attached to the rope(with brush or without).
You put the pull string in the barrel and start pulling. The rope is long enough the if the pull string break before the rope has a chance to come out the barrel, you simply pull it out by the end.
There is no way the rope itself will break as it is too thick.
As I, said…do not know how bore snake gets stuck inside a barrel.
As to if it is good or bad to use it…that is entirely different story.

I wear G96 as cologne. I wish I could buy G96 candles, air fresheners, fabric softener sheets, etc.
I shoot ALOT compared to most fellas and use them very often(yes I clean with rods as well from time to time) and wash them once a year inside a cotton sock on the hot water cycle. When my high end rifles start losing there accuracy then I will worry lols. People need to agree to disagree on certain things in life without thinking their ideas are superior to others. I say to each their own.
The pull cords break away from the the main part. Not the firwt time this has been discussed amongst gunsmiths.
